“perfectly located”
A very nice hotel with old time charm. Great location in the downtown Milwaukee arena.
“Poor Choice in Milwaukee”
I stayed 2 nights at the Astor. After the first night, I had to ask for a different room. The plumbing is old -- shower temp is hard to regulate, tub won't drain. Air conditioner does not cool, and rain leaked in around the unit, soaking the carpet. Had to open the windows, but with no screen that allowed tons of bugs in. Internet service was sketchy at best, and I spent precious time on the phone with IT rep. If this is you only hotel choice in Milwaukee, you'd be better off on a park bench.
“WE LOVE THE ASTOR!”
This is an old historic hotel with tons of charm! We love the location, the beds are great and it is right across the street from County Clare, one the best Irish Pubs in Milwaukee!
“GOOD VALUE”
EXCELLENT STAFF
“What's another word for "charming"?”
This hotel needs to be totally remodeled. Nice old hotel, but it's more run down than charming. Many rooms are rented apartments, so you smell food cooking at all hours of the day and night. It's a little spooky late at night. You don't see anyone in the hallways, the hotel seems empty, but you hear sounds behind doors. A little too "The Shining" for my comfort.
“I enJOYed myself!”
Staff was friendly- room was clean and comfortable. The common areas/hotel lobby/elevators/hallways could be improved. I liked the convenient location --close to beautiful lake Michigan!!--and a short walk to everything!
“summer fest”
Perfect location for summer fest
“"Economy" treatment”
Althought the hotel is beautifully maintained, I was turned off from the beginning by the hotel clerk who informed me that i had an "economy" room and proceeded to treat me as an economy guest. Whereas the guests in front of me had been fully informed about hotel amenities and directions to Milwaukee's Summerfest grounds, I was given none of this information. I was handed keys and went in search of elevators. Joke's on her. We were able to take advantage of the Shuttle ride to the Summerfest grounds...AND complimentary breakfast...despite being economy guests!
“It fit the bill.”
Good hotel to sleep at. Then leave for the day do all your stuff, and come back to sleep again. Really liked big bathtub.
“Nice neighborhood, well-kept classy older hotel”
I stayed at the Astor over Memorial Day weekend and had an overall excellent experience. The Astor is only a couple blocks from the lakefront which was very convenient for early morning running. It's less than 5 blocks to MSOE and also within reasonable walking distance (or a short cab ride) from Water Street and Brady Street, both of which I walked to. The neighborhood felt very safe. As for the hotel, the room was small (which can be expected in an older hotel), but had been nicely renovated. The bed and linens were exceptional and the bathroom fixtures seemed very new and well-maintained. The flat-panel TV was larger than in many of the other hotels I've stayed. The lobby is quite large in the style of older hotels and very nice. Overall, I would recommend the Astor for couples or for solo travelers who wish to stay in the downtown area. Due to the smaller room size, the Astor may not be the best fit for families with children.
