Beautifully renovated hotel downtown Milwaukee!

Posted Apr 4, 2014
What a great place & staff. The hotel was beautifully renovated and the rooms well appointed. My wife and I had a corner room on the main floor and couldn't believe the overall grandness of the room. High ceilings, and lots of floor space. Would highly recommend this hotel to all.

Communication is key

Posted Apr 2, 2014
Pros: The breakfast buffett was good.
Cons: Customer care. Sound/accurate communication with the hotel guest.
Location: The location was convenient to the Bradley Center as well as other venues.
The shuttle service dropped me and several other guest off at our destination. We were told that we would be picked up at the location that we were dropped off at. I called the hotel time three separate times before the shuttle arrived to pick me up. Each time I as given a different excuse by the front desk clerk. Never once, did she ask for my room number or contact phone number in order to get back to me with an update of the ETA of the shuttle bus. Worst of all, once the shuttle bus arrived, the drive told me that he was just notified of our pick up five minutes prior.

Stella Thank you for taking the time to share your comments with me. I am very sorry that you had difficulties with our shuttle, and did not receive the appropriate response from the front desk. I will be following up with both teams in regard to this situation. Thank you again for sharing your experience, I am very sorry that we did not meet our goal of exceeding your expectations. Historic, but be careful.

Posted Apr 2, 2014
Pros: Historic lobby area. Lots of signs detailing the history of the building. Very beautiful in lobby. Quiet, and comfortable beds. Food staff friendly
Cons: Housekeeping was adequate, but not exceptional. We found rubber bands on the floor and used coffee filters in the coffee maker. Linens were clean.
Location: Ok location. Not much on that exact road, but you can walk to the next block.
The lobby will not disappoint history buffs. But the rooms are not as historic as Hilton City Center. There are paper cups, instead of glass, in the room that leak after one use. Toilet paper fixtures are broken. Dust on TV stand. Some rooms are not at all like the pictures on the internet. (Tiny window slits on 4th floor). But when we complained they tried to make it better, although it took all day. We asked housekeeping to show us samples of the rooms, and there are quite a variety. So it's hard to tell which one you will get when booking on the internet. They do not cater to people did not "book through them". There is no parking at all, have to go to a public lot down the street unless you choose valet. Hard to unload luggage on your own due to stairs. They need to decide if they are luxury or economy, because they are trying to be both. Valet parking, $11.95 breakfast, and yet paper cups in the rooms. Prices nearly the same as luxury. There was a fire alarm during our stay. Guests were evacuated, they said due to a water leak. The Hotel smelled after that. Housekeeping was wearing masks and nose plugs (scary). Understandable in a historic building, but we were a disappointed. The food in their restaurant was very good. Family atmosphere, not a cocktail lounge.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I am very sorry that your visit was interrupted by our fire alarm and for your difficulties booking online. I am committed to making the Expedia booking process seamless, I will be auditing out online photos and looking for ways to make this easier for future guests. We did have a sprinkler release in one of our guest rooms while you were here, the water is completely safe but yes the hotel was humid and a bit smelly after the incident. I am very sorry that this impacted your visit. Thank you again for reviewing your visit, I am very sorry that we did not meet our goal of exceeding your expectations. Nick Johnson General Manager

Great location and a decent value, but...

Posted Mar 18, 2014
Pros: Fabulous architectural features.
Cons: Certain staff need training and cleanliness issues could be addressed.
Location: Very close to the Third Ward and lots of activities downtown.
I chose this hotel due to the decent rate and location, along with the amazing architectural features. All was fairly good on the first day, save some issues with the room not being as clean as one would expect. The second day there was a fair amount of noise in the evening, completely understandable with St. Pat's day revelers using it as a parking spot. HOWEVER, when I called down to the desk after over an hour of VERY loud noise I was told that they would send someone. The noise continued and when there was a crash next door waking my entire family, I called down again and had the single worst experience with a hotel staff member ever. I even went down after the call to follow-up with what I thought was abysmal service, only to be met with contempt. The security staff eventually worked out the noise situation, but the staff member involved was absolutely unapologetic. The next day our room wasn't serviced, and it had to ask twice for extra towels, etc...only to need to call down and get the things they forgot to bring up. Overall, it was just a mediocre experience. Great building, some staff was fabulous, but the dead weight means I won't return in the fall on another trip.

Historic Milwaukee Hotel

Posted Mar 4, 2014
Pros: The room was spacious very clean and comfortable.
Cons: An exhaust fan in the bathroom would have made showering a bit less steamy.
Location: Short walk or cab ride to museums and theatres. For a quick nite-cap "The Swingin' Door" tavern is accross the street. Friendly Bar Tenders!
My wife and I spent two nights at the Hilton Garden Inn in Milwaukee in early March of 2014. We were efficiently checked in and given ample information about the facility and it's amenities.

Gorgeous Hotel - Great Staff.

Posted Mar 2, 2014
Pros: I loved the ambience of old time grandeur. The hotel was clean, comfortable, beautiful, and the breakfast was excellent.
The hotel is cozy and BEAUTIFUL. The beds are very comfortable - the bathroom was very clean. There was a spot or two of what looked like could be make-up or a pen marking or ... i don't know what at the top of the mattress (I always pull the sheet down to check for bedbugs). That was the only thing that bothered me. But other than that - the hotel was absolutely perfect.

Had a great stay!

Posted Feb 25, 2014 on Hotels.com
From the moment we arrived, we knew this would be a unique experience. I stayed with my husband and 17-year-old son. We were all impressed by the restoration of this historic building. We were welcomed warmly at check-in. Our room was comfortably furnished and the high ceilings gave it a particularly spacious feeling. Clearly the housekeeping staff take pride in their jobs. The room was spotless. Despite being downtown, it was very quiet. We stayed on the 4th floor and we enjoyed taking the stairs whenever we would come and go to enjoy the beauty of the atrium. The marble, tile, and copper are stunning. We unanimously agree we're eager to stay here again!

terrible service

Posted Feb 24, 2014
Cons: customer service. The front desk staff needs to be a little more friendly
I made a reservation with expedia for 1 king bed. When I checked in the girl at the front desk didn't say anything to me. Gave me the room key and said I was on the 4th floor. When I walked in the room there were 2 queen beds not what I reserved. I went downstairs and told the lady they gave me the wrong room because my reservation is 1 king. She looked at my reservation and said they don't have any king bed room so I have to keep what they gave me. If I have a problem contact expedia. She was very rude and didn't help me at all. I was very angry because If I knew they didn't have king rooms I would of called expedia and went to a different hotel but since I have checked in already there was nothing else they can do
