It was a kind of guest house, but. Everything was super clean since staff cleans all the time. Room has only bed,tv, and a little water space but it's enough just for sleep. They have a lot of showers and toilets and even bath and of course all are clean. Breakfast was nice buffet. And staffs are super super helpful!!! There are people all over the world. You can communicate and egg a lot of info there. And it was cheap!!! We definitely come back !!!

Great room and location, very clean and a great breakfast buffet.
We had a double in the south section (which is new) and we're really impressed. This is by far the largest room we've had in Japan, with a massive bed, great bathroom and heaps of space.
Worth the money in every way

This is not a traditional ryokan, but a rather standard building. It is Japanese-style with tatami mats in the rooms and futon mattresses. The room was pretty small, but was clean and comfortable. The owners were friendly and spoke some English, and provided a local map and info on the bus routes (plus they sell the day pass for the city bus). They also had some pamphlets for day trip packages, and sold postcards, Kyoto maps, and Yukata robes.
Their website claims they now (October 2011) serve breakfast, however when I asked the first morning, he said that they don't. There are a couple convenience stores nearby, though, and we picked up some pastry breads to keep in the room for mornings.
They do have wifi in the rooms - I had trouble connecting, but my traveling companion connected easily. There's also a TV.
The location (a few blocks south of Kyoto station) is a little remote from many of the interesting parts of Kyoto, but there's a subway station a block south, and the city bus terminal is at Kyoto station. It was an easy walk to To-ji Temple (five-story pagoda), which I could see from my 4th floor window.

Looking for the place after sunset was just a bit challenging since the building is unobtrusive and does not not have a big, lighted sign. However, following the directions to get there was easy enough and it is relatively close to the Kujo subway station.
It is a small building (5 floors) with ryokan style rooms. The room we got was clean, and had a separate bath and toilet, and another wash basin, which was very helpful since we were a group of three.

The hotel was very nice and so was the staff. I little far from bus stops, but Kyoto Station is a couple blocks away. Staff helped us send bags to Tokyo which was fantastic, and their English was good.
