Mito is located approximately 65 miles (105 kilometers) from Tokyo, the capital of Japan, and about 55 miles (89 kilometers) from Chiba.
While it may be a temptation to just kick back and relax when holidaying in Mito, remember, Ibaraki 's numerous natural sights, cities and towns lie just beyond your doorstep. Hitachi, 19 miles (31 kilometers) to the southwest, and Motegi, 20 miles (32 kilometers) to the southeast of Mito are good spots to check out if you have the time.
Nasu, is another interesting spot to head to. It is about 50 miles (80 kilometers) from Mito and offers a diverse range of things to see, for example Stone Plaza, Nasu Highland Park and Nasu Folk Museum. Nasu Safari Park, Nasu Stained Glass Museum and Nasu History Museum are just a handful of the other visitor attractions on offer here.
Impress to local people in Ibaraki, by trying to speak Japanese. "Isshoni odorimasenka?" is a good one to try. In English, it means "Would you like to dance with me?" And also "Benjo wa doko desu ka?", which means "Where's the toilet?"
