Wonderful - a hidden gem, not to be missed

Posted Aug 12, 2014
Pros: Immaculate attention to detail, decor and cleanliness. Wonderful maintained gardens and grounds. Beautiful food and staff were attentive and polite.
Cons: I cannot think of anything - perfection
We arrived at the hotel as part of a surprise for my wife, part of a 4 night break away and where greeted with a very warm welcome by the hotel receptionist and the assistance of a porter to help carry our luggage to our room. On check in we were upgraded to the O'Caralon Suite, situated right at the top of the castle building. It was a truly wonderful suite, upon entering, to the left, was a huge bathroom, with a stand alone roll top bath, a massage table and a huge shower/steam room. To the right was the bedroom, which upon opening the door, was jaw dropping - a huge bed with a beautiful ornate gothic styled headboard, centred in the middle of the room - positioned so that you were looking out the window, with a view across the beautiful manicured lawns and the lough - a view i am sure cannot be equalled! We ate in the drawing room of the castle, which served snacks and light meals. The service was immaculate, with lovely food and attentive staff. The main restaurant was also the breakfast room, again a beautiful styled room. We didn't eat in the main restaurant but we had breakfast, which had both cooked and continental selections - a great menu and everything was fresh and wonderfully displayed. We took time to walk around part of the huge grounds at the castle and can fully understand why it is the perfect location for weddings - the groundsmen deserve a special mention for the unenvyable task of maintaining it so well.

Beautiful estate

We are a family of four. We had two lovely adjacent rooms that were marvelously appointed. The premises and the grounds were spectacular - like staying in a story book, complete with gentle, attentive staff.

Quiet, peaceful & beautiful

Pros: Food service in the bar/lounge. It's comfortable, food is hearty and less expensive than the restaurant.
Location: It is off the beaten path which is fine. Mohill town is close by. Carrick on Shannon isn't too far away.
What a lovely hotel castle. We stayed here toward the end of our holiday and it was perfect. It allowed us time to rest and reflect on our wonderful holiday. WiFi is only available in lounge area - it's a castle with thick rock walls. Signal can't travel through rock. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful. Parking was easy. We requested a room with two beds which we were not able to get. We got a rollaway which was weird because the mattress was in two pieces. You slipped through the crack during the night. The grounds and garden are beautiful. It's great to walk around and soak in the beauty.

NOT a stay in castle

Posted Apr 22, 2014 on Hotels.com
V disappointed. Booked a room months ago, on arrival /checkin got hauled out of the main hotel, and walked back towards the area we parked our car, not too long a walk, but the bellhop wasnt leading us to another part of the castle!! Led into a house!!!! Unless concrete stairs is the new 5 star! Or the tiny bathroom, without a bath! Its just not the same! I may as well have booked into somewhere else! An off site location should be clearly stated! I felt the hotel were treating me different for booking with a discount online as they made several reference s to it! My understanding is that you get treated the same, but benefit from a lesser price, not lesser quality!
