Authentic old west hotel

Posted May 25, 2015
Pros: We liked the whole experience of the hotel.
Location: Lots of wineries to taste at.
We enjoyed how well the staff has maintained this old hotel, it had everything we need even ghosts. If you are looking for a quiet room do not stay in the rooms above the bar, it gets very loud in the evenings. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the grounds are extremely nice, the hotel is in as good of shape as you could expect for the age, the rooms underneath the hotel were interesting and in a way creepy (not in a bad way, just in a ghost eerie way). The restaurant was very good for dinner, and the continental breakfast was above average.

creepy and very cool

Posted Mar 8, 2015
we stayed in room 2 right above the bar that had a live band playing (Saturday night). wasn't too bad as we were at the bar listening most of the night and turned in about 12:30. about 3 am my gf woke up and saw the shutters next to the bed open and push the drape back. the noise woke me also and I looked over and said "oh, I thought I opened the window" and so I opened the window and fell back to sleep. she put her head under the covers and it took her an hour to fall back asleep. that was the only strange thing that happened to us at this haunted hotel...

Another great historic & haunted hotel

Posted Jun 27, 2014
Pros: The historic ambience.
Location: Being a history buff I enjoy the museums in San Andreas (about 10 miles away). There are also many wineries, shops in Jackson (8 miles away).
I have stayed at the Hotel Leger in Mokelumne Hill, CA many times over the years and I've always enjoyed it. This trip was no expception. Every one connected with the hotel is friendly & helpful. I would suggest staying here on Thursdays thru Sundays so you can take advantage of the fine restaurant and bar. The new owners have taken to a restoration project since my last visit and it's beginning to show. I think I would have preferred my usual room (George Leger's room) but I registered late and the room was taken by members of a paranormal investigation team that was spending the weekend at the hotel. Some guests have had some wild experiences with the ghosts that haunt this place, but my experiences have always been pleasant. I guess the ghosts like me!

Much better the second time around

Posted Mar 25, 2014
Pros: Loved the history of the hotel.
Cons: The mattresses could be improved.
Location: The area is such a quaint little town. We spent a good part of our trip gold panning in Jamestown and hanging out with friends in Valley Springs.
We stayed here a year and a half ago, and said we would never go back. It is under new management now and a sentimental place for us since we got engaged there. We decided to give it a second try for our honeymoon. It was definitely much better this time around. We called in advance to confirm our room, they gave us a different room than the one we reserved on Expedia. I spoke with the manager and got it fixed, and put in our requested room. The staff was very pleasant. The continental breakfast is also a nice touch. I rated room comfort at a 2 because the bed was next to impossible to sleep in. I know the hotel is old, but I think they should be able to update the mattresses. They were so uncomfortable that we woke up very sore both nights. Other than the mattresses, everything about this stay was 100 times better than our previous stay.

tranquil relaxing atmosphere

Posted Jan 2, 2014
Cons: Would like to see more guests use the hotel
Location: I like swimming or wading in the Mokelumne River just eight miles away.Mount Reba Ski Lodge is up highway 4 toward Ebbett's Pass and Murphys.
I have visited in the area of calaveras county and find it very quiet and relaxing. The guests at the hotel are polite and very accommodating.I am going back to stay for Superbowl 2014 as well as visit relatives in the area. What makes it accommodating is no technological interruptions such as phones or television.

Quaint but not too rustic.

Staff is gracious and accomodating. Location is in the heart of the Mother Lode. Several of the rooms had private bathrooms. We missed the Wednesday night movies but it sounded like a fun activity.

Historical adventure

Posted Sep 30, 2013
I reserved a room with a bathroom, didn't get a bathroom, owner did comp us a free dinner, they were having a prom? Was very noisy, they have ear plugs in the room for the 'thin' walls, noise stopped at midnight, was dead silent after that with the exception of the person in the next room snoring, sound like sleeping next to me. Was an experience I won't forget for a while.

Looking forward to our next stay there

The hotel is old but loaded with history, antiques and ghosts. The staff was ver friendly and gave us a private tour of the caves under the hotel. They knew it was our aniversary and they decorated a suite and even added champagne for no additional charge. The food was good at the hotel and the old time bar was alot of fun. If you realize you are staying in a place of history you will have a great time. There are several things that need repair but thats part of the overall charm. We will go back, Dennis

Not the quietest....but cool all the same

Posted Oct 7, 2010
Very cool, down home place... could be adventurous...just make sure to bring your own earplugs and beware of young children... we had families with young children on each side of our room, and they were soooo obnoxious and loud... floors very creaky, walls very thin.. but if you like history and have a sense of adventure (and humor), this is such a cool place. I would definitely stay again...
