Pleasant surprise...Posted Jun 17, 2014
The Serena is a beautifully located, superbly staffed and professionally maintained hotel. Secure, quiet but not too far from town, the Serena offers something for everyone. The half meal plan was another excellent surprise as the food was well prepared and delicious. Excellent staff. Courteous and professional.

A piece of paradise in North Mombasa beachPosted May 5, 2014
Pros: The lush beauty of the gardens and beach, classic Swahili architecture, wonderful fresh healthy food with lots of choice and the wonderful staff.
Cons: Just extending our stay, a week is not enough!
The sense of wellbeing begins with the warm welcome on arrival, this is a lovely place to relax and unwind from the cares of the world. Although it was the rainy season, we only had one day without sunshine and spent the whole week out of doors, whether eating the delicious food in the restaurant, swimming in the lovely Indian Ocean or lazing on the sunbeds under the shade of the palm trees.Nothing is too much trouble for the smiling friendly staff, just wish we had longer.

A very nice place to stay and adequate facilitiesPosted Feb 23, 2014
Pros: I enjoyed the gym and the sport facilities and cannot wait to come again lose more weight.
Cons: Dinner should be served earlier for weight watchers, I suggest 6pm start
Location: The location offers the benefit of a long stretch of beach activities comprising running, walking, etc.
Very grateful to have discovered this excellent place through Expedia, would definitely visit again.

Beachfront SpaPosted Sep 20, 2013
Pros: Great staff.
Cons: Faster check-out
Location: On the beach so all water-sports available.
Stayed one night only. Very nice hotel, right on the beach. Lots of facilities, good room, no problem with flies or mozzies. Great shower! Quiet and peaceful, fell asleep listening to the surf. Best for couples.

Disgraceful treatment by inept managementPosted Apr 2, 2013
Pros: Leaving it.
Had to constantly complain of noisy and temperamental A/C, requests to be moved were ignored. Services were basic but very expensive. Drinks were expensive and menus were not priced. Regular power interruptions and basic malfunctions in room equipment meant the need for constant requests to seek remedial action, this was never carried out either promptly or with any degree of success, Paid a lot of money for an extremely poor service, never again.

Old but well kept luxurious hotelPosted Jan 30, 2013 on Hotels.com
Hotel was built back in the 70s or so, but is well kept, the staff are friendly and helpful and the facilities are good. Location is fine if you want to enjoy the beach but is a little further away from town, shopping, etc., if you happen to be in Mombasa on business rather than pleasure.

Good hotel for guaranteed relaxation for couplesPosted Jan 24, 2013
Pros: chalet room, peace, interior decor
Cons: mass catered food in the main hotel restaurant
Location: The beach is fine; there did not appear to be much to visit outside the hotel
This is a very comfortable, well appointed hotel, with reasonable food (better food at the nearby fish restaurant for which you are not really covered under the half board agreement). The beach, swimming pool, gym and spa were all good. We were not disturbed by loud music or anything else. I would recommend this hotel for couples seeking a short break and relaxation. But given there is not much else to do or see in the nearby locality, you need to absolutely love beach, sun and swimmming to stay for a longer period.

Not bad for Mombasa. Requested iron / ironing board and the iron was non-functional. Staff was friendly.
