Sheer relaxationPosted Oct 14, 2012
Monte Gordo is perfect for those seeking a quiet relaxing holiday. The Alcazar is close to beach and town centre but no noise at night from bars or clubs. The hotel was full for the first weekend due to a national holiday. The staff were very friendly and efficient, the room comfortable and clean and the breakfasts excellent. A memorable week and we will be returning next year.

Wonderful holiday!Posted Oct 9, 2011
Really lovely people, and nice hotel. Very clean (just like the photos). Pool area lovely, with the additional great hammocks and swinging outdoor four-poster beds! Breakfast was decent (would have liked soya milk); beach is only 2 blocks away and very beautiful. Was blessed with great weather (28 degrees) in early October. Very safe as a solo female traveller. My only objection was the horrible musak which was playing 24/7 in the corridors and also in the pool area. However, when I registered my feelings about this, the manager offered to turn it off in the pool area (where I tended to hang out most of the day) for the duration of my stay! Blessed silence! Mainly frequented at this time of year by older travellers (over 50) from UK, Netherlands, Germany. Very friendly and low-key.

not reccommendedPosted Jul 10, 2010 on Hotels.com
we checked into hotel, did not like two box rooms we were allocated, so we got a suite...disappointed not to be able to make even a cup of coffee in room, only bathroom two bedrooms, one small, the other nice and big with balcony...view off balcony was of construction of another hotel, noise of construction was annoying. no room service for food. Breakfast was included in stay, and was awful. Not one person upon check in or check out or service thru the week asked us how was our holiday, pool area was nice, but the whole expreince was like mars....no atphmosphere

"Would stay here again"Posted Oct 20, 2008 on Hotels.com
We stayed here for two weeks at the begining of October, the hotel was quiet, only about a third full, the majority of guests were older people or golfers. The rooms were clean and serviced every day, clean towels were available every day if required and bed linen was changed every third day. Breakfast was a buffet service in the resturant, plenty of choice of bread, rolls, cereals, fresh fruit, continental cold meats and cheeses, hot dishes also available. We were on a B&B basis so did not use the resturant for evening meals. There was a good size swimming pool with a small paddling pool for youngsters, plenty of sun loungers aroung the pool and a small snack bar alongside the pool. There are tennis courts for the energetic, a large sandy fenced off play area for children with numerous climbing frames, swings etc. There is a games room with Pool table, table football and a selection of electronic games. The hotel is only a short walk from the enormous beach which stretches for miles and is quite close to the town centre where there are numerous snack bars and resturants. All in all a good clean quiet hotel in a quiet location, this of course could be quite different in the height of the season when schools are on holiday.

Great hotelPosted Jul 10, 2008
We were a party of 5 couples and stayed for 14 nights and we were very pleased with this hotel. The pool and other public areas were very well maintained, the reception staff were extremely helpful, going out of their way to find things out for us. We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis, and were more than satisfied with all the food choices, the only grumble was the tea - it was terrible! The bedrooms were a very good size and great air conditioning, we had a twin room, and it was a little short on drawer space, but some of our friend had double rooms, and these were much bigger and had more storage space. All in all, we enjoyed our stay here and would come again.

Will stay at this hotel againPosted May 2, 2008
The hotel was excellent in every way. We had a room on the eighth floor on the corner, it had a massive (approx 30ft x 10ft) balcony with sun lounger and a table and chairs, one side facing the sea the other side facing the nature reserve and Villa Real de st Antonio. We stayed B&B. Breakfast was good with a wide choice of hot and cold buffet. We will certainly stay again. The room was clean and large enough.

Excellent if there aren't footballersPosted Feb 24, 2008
The hotel was excellent, but there were a group of footballers staying who were seven floors below and making a ton of racket at 2 in the morning. It was a beautiful room with a spectacular view of the ocean and surrounding Monte Gordo. Polite and helpful staff -- great food at the dinner and breakfast buffet. Entertainment at night was fun and the drink specials were amazing!... especially when the rest of the town was dead. Overall, it was a steal for the room, view, food, and staff!
