Montecatini Terme has plenty of good quality 'genteel' hotels reflecting it's history as a spa town. I booked Hotel Astoria because of the exceptionally good rate offered over the May holiday, fully expecting a downside on arrival - and found there wasn't any! The Astoria is a faultless 4 star hotel with some plus points over other hotels in Montecatini I've stayed in, although I hasten to add I've been delighted with them all bar one.
The hotel has a peaceful location in the park but only 'due passi' from the centre, the large garden/pool area is restful and catches the sun all day, and the rooms have usable balconies with views of the surrounding hills.
A two night stop-over extended into a six day chill-out.

We stayed at La Pia for 4 nights and enjoyed our stay. The hotel is run by Maria and her brother and they offer a very friendly and efficient service. Nothing is too much trouble for them. Our room, on the 4th floor, had great views out to Montecatini Alto, was quiet and comfortable.
Montecatini is an excellent base from which to visit Northern Tuscany and La Pia is less than 10 minutes from the rail station. La Pia offered to purchase rail tickets in advance and their excellent local knowledge is like having a local 'Tourist Information' office on hand.
We will definitely consider La Pia again should we decide to stay in Montecatini.

Pictures do not do this place justice. It's huge, romantic, and so beautiful! Seems more like 4.5-5*'s! It's the best place to stay to view all the best places like Florence and local amazing towns. Free parking too! It really was perfect. Stunning rooms! Couldn't believe it when we arrived as pictures didn't look as half as good!! :)

A nice old hotel, with new and well chosen decoration in keeping with the period. Large room, elegant furniture, with balcony overlooking park. Very good breakfast, helpful staff. Sitting and eating area outside under beautiful trees, small car park. The restaurant had a very good menu. Near to town, up slight incline.

Spent a week in Montecatini Terme and decided to stay in Hotel Torretta based on previous good reviews. The location is great as a short 10 minute stroll through the big park in the middle of Montecatini takes you straight through to the town centre. The hotel is also just a couple of minutes walk from the funicolare which takes you up to Montecatini Alto. We planned to stay in the hotel for dinner for the first couple of nights and to seek other restaurants in the town later in week but were so impressed with the food and service that we decided to eat in the hotel every night. All in all the stay at Hotel Torretta was very enjoyable and we would gladly go back.

Quite difficult to find by car at first - follow the various signs through the town and up to Montecatini Alto. Once found once, no problem thereafer. The hotel was beautifully positioned with great views over the valley and up to Montecatini Alto. Really clean rooms, serviced well each day. Bed comfortable and good shower, television etc. Hotel staff genuinely helpful and friendly - especially Valentina on reception and the guy at breakfast who was a treat. Good swimming pool and poolside beds, lovely patio. Great choice at breakfast, everything you could want for continental breakfast. For the price, my wife and I thought it was superb. Not so good on my legs, so the hire car was essential for me. For anyone good on their pins walking to town should not be a problem - 20 minutes or so. Loved the hotel, loved the surroundings, within easy reach of railways to Florence, Pisa, Lucca etc. Well done Hotel Villa Maria.

If you are looking for ultra-speed wifi, arctic aircon, kids groups & new-build renovation standards, then don't make the choice to stay here - you will not enjoy the experience, go to a radisson instead.
We found the hotel to be an elegant reminder of when quality, courtesy, tradition, respect & harmony were valued as highly as convenience, utility & lowest common denominator are now.
The staff are wonderful & helpful, each & every one of them. The backdrop of the communal areas are jaw-dropping in their beauty. Our room was a fantastic space, filled with the most tasteful furniture. The whole building has lived a life & it is a very tasteful one.
We loved it, would return in an instant & already miss it, one day after leaving.
