Nice hotel. By the beach!Posted Nov 22, 2014
The hotel itself is very nice and all inclusive is way to go. But the down side is theirs no local stores outside the hotel. You have to take a shuttle bus or taxi to go to the town and its about 10-15mins drive. There you will find local market place a flea market, so you can bargain. And the closes airport to this hotel is montego bay airport. Shuttle bus ride from the airport to this hotel is about 1hr drive, maybe longer if the bus driver has to drop off other people to different hotels. Other than that riu ocho rios is a very good place to stay and relax.

beautiful view after room changePosted Nov 18, 2014
Pros: location and beach
initially disappointed in room location - had paid for upgrade to oceanview - ocean could only be seen if strained neck over balcony. Room changed - view perfect. Food was very poor quality, this was the only reason we will not return. Very unfortuate as the location and beach were amazing.

You Could Do WorsePosted Nov 17, 2014
Pros: It seemed pretty safe and there were not many kids. The beach was pretty.
Cons: Shampoo and conditioner and body soap should be supplied and not just one for all. The bed was uncomfortable and there was no blanket.
Location: It is far from the airport; like 1.5 hours.
The rules to abide by at this hotel are clearly set for those that take advantage of situations, and also to maximize profit by leaving guests with subpar food and amenities. If you don't bring your own shampoo, watch out you will be using the same soap to wash your body and hair. It can take more than 6 hours for them to clean your room after you leave for breakfast. This is my second experience in a RIU hotel - the other was in Mexico. Never again. I suppose that you could do worse. I did feel fairly safe, but when I go on vacation I want to have good food and less restrictions such as the use of a "towel card" and feel that I am enjoying myself and not being deprived of things that allow me feel relaxed and how I want them. I think if a better trip costs $500-1000 more, that would be my preference.

WonderfulPosted Nov 17, 2014
Pros: The hospitality was infectious and friendly
Cons: See above response
Location: Visitation of local business, horseback riding
I wish you had an infrared sauna or steam room. Otherwise we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We plan to return with more friends.

Friendly PlacePosted Nov 16, 2014
We had a great time. The staff is happy to be there, they go out of their way to help you. Of course some things could be improved: some days of the week lunch is only served at "Plantation" you have to walk all the way to one end of the Resort to get it. The Show at night could use a new sound equipment and direction but the performers give it all. Very good place to relax and enjoy.

Always love RIUPosted Nov 16, 2014
I've been to RIU about 6 -7 years ago and I loved it then and loved it again. I stayed in the adult only section this time and it was lovely. The pool was was always nice, cleaned every day and the staff was very helpful and fun too. They also respected the fact that we paid for a secluded area and asked people the tried to intrude to leave. The food was good, a small sampling of local was cuisine which only ok but I'm Jamaican so I'm biased. The only issue I had was that they weren't always prompt with cleaning our room. They sometimes would come in the morning while we still getting ready and then not come back until late in the day. But it's a small thing. FYI the price to take taxi's into town are outrageous, if you want to into town often rent a car, driving on the left side of the road isn't as hard as it seems.

The property is beautiful and the food was goodPosted Nov 15, 2014
Pros: The food, the layout and the beauty of the property as well as the ol' time Jamaica country bus that took tourists around!
Cons: Getting rooms on time.
Location: Many attractions in St. Ann and neighbouring parishes of St. Mary, Portland , Trelawny and St. James .
The property is beautiful and the food was good, especially the Jamaican food, however we waited too long to get our rooms which was distressing. The front desk staff answered our queries but we had to be scurrying to get the answers. When we showed how we felt about what was happening, a very sensitive agent committed to getting the answers and the keys and came to let us know. Our adult children enjoyed themselves and were pleased with their rooms but we were a bit disappointed with the partial sea view. The ladies at the Renova Spa were excellent.
