Family of 5 (kids ages 6,4,2)Posted Jul 12, 2013
Pros: Size of rooms, friendly staff, free wifi, and reasonable rates
Cons: I felt comfortable that the overall cleaning was good but I think there was some mildew/mold growing on the curtains in the bathroom
Location: We enjoyed the beach in Carmel, the aquarium in monterey, and Dennis the mennis park
We really enjoyed their family suite - two bedrooms and one bath - it was more like having an apartment

Big, comfy roomPosted Jul 9, 2013
Enjoyed the room ambiance - spacious with vaulted ceilings. Fridge and microwave useful. Pretty flowers and close access to butterfly sanctuary made it a pretty place to stay.

Good hotel for a familyPosted Jun 10, 2013
Pros: Convenient location
Butterfly Inn was great for our family weekend getaway to the Monterey area. The room was clear and spacious and the location was ideal for a run along the beach front (in the fog) or a short drive or bike to the aquarium and downtown area. I would consider returning to this hotel for future weekend trips. We didn't get a chance to use the pool, unfortunately.

Exstremely DisapointedPosted Sep 28, 2012
Pros: Sorry to say there was not one thing we liked.
Cons: That the owners do not show any pride in this property and apparantly do not care what people are going to think. Word of mouth goes a long way!
Location: Great location in Pacific Grove,Ca.
I'm sorry to say that this was a very unkept room. Very shotty furniture, Bathroom handles, etc. were very coroded, supposed to be silver in color but were almost black. Floors in bathroom etc. were not cleaned properly, had pinkish color in the corners of the floor. The couches smelled and were shredding in places. We were suppose to stay for 4 nights but couldn't take it. They made us pay for the first night so we had to stay. We left the next morning (gladly) and found another hotel. I do not understand how anyone could run a place like this. They charge a good amount for their rooms and can't even keep up with the small things. This place was just plain dirty and unkept. Do not ever stay in the back part of this property, very sad.

Okay if you need family spacePosted Aug 7, 2012
The hotel is old, it needs upkeep, new carpeting on the outside stairs, some vending machines would be helpful. There is also no complementary breakfast to speak of, for the price, you'd think you'd get more than old pastry and stale cereal. Do better, you're in Pacific Grove.

Great Place of the Hot Blooded TravellerPosted Jul 14, 2012
Pros: Size of the room, vaulted ceiling, scenic surroundings.
Cons: No heat.
Location: Giant trees, beautiful flowers, and deer wandering outside. A few blocks from the ocean, and next to a Monarch butterfly preserve. Very relaxing.
All of our reduced ratings are the result of one glaring issue. The fireplace in the room is the only source of heat. Since the temperature in the evening was in the low 50's and foggy, the room was quite chilly. Turning up the thermostat started the fireplace, but the gas fed burners had only a very low output. We went out for dinner and came back to a still cold room and low burning fireplace. This was reported to the office, who said we should wait awhile for the fan to come on; it had already been two hours at this point, so he then said he'd send someone down. That never happened, the fireplace never did work properly, the room remained cold all night, and the hotel's rating has therefore taken the hit. Too bad, as otherwise this would be the place to stay.

great hotel for familyPosted Jul 2, 2012
Great location, w/in walking distance of downtown Pacific Grove and offers really huge rooms wiht high ceilings! The size of the rooms, plus pool and protected park area within the hotel grounds makes it very family friendly. Also off of Lighthouse Avenue -so you dont have the immediate traffic/noise right outside your front door or window. Downside is the insulation is minimal - so you can hear the families easily from room to room. Very clean but the mattress was very old and woke up to back-aches every morning.
