“Clean, shabby chic, chilly”
The building is a bit old and shabby, but I actually think that's part of its charm. I loathe sleeping in dark, grubby, enclosed hotel rooms, so I was relieved to find my room nice and clean, with good light and a high ceiling. There was even a little balcony in back, with a view of the river (albeit through some heavy undergrowth). My only complaint is that I got a little cold during the night. There was just one actual blanket for the bed, and that was stashed away in the closet. The heater didn't want to kick on, either, even after I followed the advice from the guy at the desk by cranking the thermostat to the max. I definitely enjoyed my stay overall.
“Motel 6 of Carmel”
Do NOT take your wife here if she is looking for a nice Carmel weekend getaway. The main part of the motel looks like a sea green version of Motel 6, and the cabins look slightly nice than a campground. Fortunately the cabins look OK on the inside- at least the recently remodeled ones do- but the bed in our cabin felt like it was purchased in the 60s. Pay a little more to stay somewhere else.
“Moldy, dirty, and creepy bugs”
Although the staff were very pleasant, the hotel is very dirty. I don't mind an older place, if it is maintained, however, the mold in the showers, the bugs smashed on the walls, the dirty floors and carpets just made us feel like camping would be more sanitary. The hotel "upgraded" us to a cottage for handicap persons our second night, however, the room was just as bad. there are plenty of boutique hotels right off of Ocean Ave. Try oneof those instead !!
“Mediocre Hotel for price”
Walls were thin. We heard guest next door when they came to their room at night. The bathroom was small and dated. The location was quiet. Overall we thought the hotel quality was not worth the price.
“Quiet, pretty, convenient”
The only negative for this place was the internet connection - not the best. Otherwise this is pretty place, simple but clean and close to everything - great service.
“Will be back!”
I am going back again with my family. It is close to everything and a nice walk to the Carmel Mission.
“Very Nice Place”
Nice environment, nice staff.
“Comfortable, but not fancy”
The Carmel River Inn is a comfortable hotel. It is not fancy or new, but met our needs. The pool was enjoyable and the grounds were beautiful, especially the flower gardens and the creek behind the hotel.
“Spectacular gardens on this property”
I booked this hotel because of its close proximity to the events that were scheduled for my 30 year high school reunion. I read the reviews posted and felt it was worth the chance due to the mostly favorable opinions. The price was great...especially since we were upgraded to one of the stand alone cottages when we checked in. The cottage had a living room with wood burning fireplace, kitchen, bedroom, bathroom. This is not a fancy resort, it is an older hotel that has been undergoing renovation. I do not require chocolates on a pillow or towels shaped as animals in my room but I do want a comfortable bed and a clean bathroom. It had both. The grounds are stunning...flowers, walking paths, fountains. It is right off of Highway 1 but you do not hear any noise from cars. There is a very nice shopping center directly across the highway and it can be accessed by a path under the bridge...we were able to ride our bikes to most of our destinations. The staff was very helpful and friendly. If you are a "name-dropper" and require a concierge then this place is not going to work for you, but if you are looking for a decent hotel with a very fair price and a great location then this is the place. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Carmel River Inn and will most definitely return.
“Wiil go back”
Small cottages nestled in a forest like environement; Cypress Trees, meadows, garden walking paths, soothing fountains. The lady at the desk was very pleasant and upgraded our room for no special reason or extra charge. Close to the Barnyard, Beach and Monterey . Can't wait to go back. We had the Cottage #35 Next time I will stay longer and even go alone for writing retreat. Very safe and clean. No traffic noise.
