“I will definitely go back”

The hotel was in an okay spot, not downtown or in the beach area but convenient. It was very clean and well maintained. The front desk was knowledgeable and helpful, recommending dining and attractions. The room was comfortable and spacious and very clean. The only issue was that we ran out of hot water in the shower. There were only two of us in the room.

Area recommendations
Something in the beach/downtown area so you can walk to all of the attractions.
When to go
Anytime, this city has so much to offer.

“Best Value in Carmel, CA”

Very clean rooms, perfect location for walking Carmel and to restaurants. Very delicious breakfast baskets delivered every morning. Very nice and helpful staff. Just an over the top value. Highly recommend it.

“Quaint motel, great deal for the price.”

Checked in and stayed only one night. Nice hotel staff, slightly old and outdated room. The bed was AMAZING though, so comfortable, slept like a baby. Only real downside was the internet connectivity. I specifically booked this place due to the free wifi. However, the signal strength was so low that I couldn't connect. I think the router was in the main office, and I was across the parking lot. Oh well, I didn't come to Carmel to spend time on my computer anyway. Would use again.

“Barely Acceptable for Budget Travelers”

This is a hotel for very budget conscious travel only. The room is very sparse...as in no pictures on the wall, very small space, outdated furnishings, VERY outdated old 1970's looking bedspread, loud noise level. I paid under a hundred bucks per night via expedia and got what I paid for...barely. The walls are very thin, you'll hear everything in the next room. Decor leaves nothing to write home about. Breakfast was ok if you like stale packaged rolls but the daily banana was good (hard to screw that up). They're supposed to give you a USA Today but one day I didn't get one and they said "we ran out". The bathroom was ok...best part of the room. By the way, there is NO HEAT in the rooms (that's right, NO heat!). They have extra blankets for the bed at night which worked ok for me. The key here is price. If you can't afford or don't want to pay the going rate for a decent hotel room in Carmel, this is a good option. I would NEVER consider this for a romantic getaway. I was on business trip so I didn't care about all the lacking amenities. I wouldn't bring my wife here. Maybe by the time you read this, they'll have updated and added new furnishings. When making a reservation call them and ask when last hotel was refurbished. If not recently, consider looking elsewhere. You would get a much nicer room in Monterey on Casa Munras Ave. for the same price if you don't mind not being in Carmel proper. Good luck!!!

“Simple and Convenient”

Great Location two blocks from the main street of Carmel. They are upgrading their bathrooms (which are very small) with new tile and fixtures but there was no distrubance nor construction noise while we were there. Rooms are nice but simple, walls are "thin" and you can hear your next door neighbor cough. Guests were mature and not load. Good choice for a simple trip to Carmel, but not a romantic getaway spot.

Area recommendations
It is nice to be off of Ocean Street where you will have trouble parking and a high volume of tourist traffic. Two blocks either north or south of Ocean is best. If you intend to spend time on the beach, especially with children, a place closer to the water (west) is much better.
When to go
June and July is not usually be best time to be in Carmel, as it is often overcast. Rains can be significant in January and February. Great time is August thru September with October often being very nice. April thru May can also be very nice.
Must see
Walking along the beach from Carmel north into the Pebble Beach Golf Club area is very calming with a few people with well behaved dogs jumping in the water. If you get a chance, at or around sunset at the Spanish Bay Golf course a person in Scottish attire will play the bag pipes as he walks up the last hole into the tavern area. The Monterey Aquarium is great for kids and adults as well. If you go to a play in the outdoor theater in Carmel make sure to dress warm as the temps will drop at a moments notice. Obviously the 17 mile drive with many stops at various points on the beach is a must, take a picnic lunch and bottle of wine.
Dining
The food in the local restaurants is upscale and outstanding while not being overly priced. don't be afraid to go to Pacific Grove or on the pier at the breakwater in Monterey for great fish at very reasonable prices. Some restaurants overlook the Ocean north of Carmel. Great places to sit, have coffee and relax on Ocean Street.
Outdoors or beach
In Carmel drive west on Ocean Street until you hit the parking lot for the Pacific Ocean. Great beach right there with great sand and room to throw a frisbee or football without bothering anyone. Good place to hike along the beach. Golf is king with some very good courses that are very reasonable as well as some that should be limited to the rich and/or famous. Public course in Pacific Grove has a generic front nine but an incredible back nine along the ocean. Poppy Hills remains the best deal on an upscale course and the rebuilt Blackhorse/Bayonett courses north at the old Fort Ord are great challenges for good golfers at a not cheap but worth it cost. Wineries in the Carmel Valley are worth the tasting.

“Will stay somewhere else next time”

I really liked the location of the hotel, but that is about it. The rooms were small and outdated. There was very little water pressure in the shower. I know that they are trying to conserve water, but if you have long hair like my wife it will take you 10 minutes to wash and rinse your hair. I did enjoy the continental breakfast that is brought to the room in a basket each morning. Next time I will spend a little more and stay somewhere else.

“If only they made the rooms more modern”

Why is it that some hotels still have the decor of something that belongs in my gran's house where she has not decorated for 35 years? I just wished hotels like this got rid of the old pattern curtains, carpet and bed covers and got something contemporary. Then it would have been perfect.

Traveler's tip
Try and get to the Pebble Beach Concours that takes place in August.

“Can't wait to spend more time there”

Really appreciated the location. 1 1/2 blocks from Ocean Ave. Parked the car and walked every where. Bathrooms were clean and the refrigerator keep things very cold. Lots of pillows on the bed.
