“Nice Hotel”

Really nice, clean and quiet. Pool not that clean. Not everything is perfect. I would recomend it.

“Good Continental Breakfast”

The hotel was nice/standard. The continental breakfast was better than we expected. Free internet a plus. Closer to freeways then to the Broadwalk...the town is small so driving to the Boardwalk is not bad distance.

Area recommendations

Downtown area is a must see. Very cute, cozy area, nice to walk around. Many shops, restaurants and thrift stores and a couple of movie theaters. The boardwalk is about a mile away. Near the Boardwalk is a bicycle rental place too if you're interested in riding around.

“Nothing extraordinary, but nothing bad either!”

My boyfriend & 2 teenage boys stayed here only for a night when we decided to take a detour from our way home to Carson, Ca. from our visit to Tahoe. None of us have ever visited Santa Cruz. The hotel was a good place to crash for 1 night. They also provided breakfast but it was nothing spectacular. If I was to return to Santa Cruz, I would probably stay here again because of the price.

Area recommendations

I highly recommend visiting the Mystery Spot and the beach boardwalk.

“Santa Cruz Christmas Fun”

This is a great hotel for time in Santa Cruz. Love the location and the hot tub. The rooms have been remodeled which is very nice and the showers have good water pressure which isn't always the case in Santa Cruz.

Area recommendations

I always enjoy the cocktail hour at the Crow's Nest. Plus, this trip I enjoyed the greet coffee house experience at Santa Cruz Roasters. Don't miss breakfast at the Dolphin on the wharf.

“Ok, on the hiway, not near boardwalk, but clean.”

Yes, but know that it is off the hiway and not near the Boardwalk. You will need to drive to attractions and it isn't near the tourist attractions. But, for the money it was clean and was fine.

“Will not go back to be gouged again”

We have stayed here 2 times previously and had no issues, but this time they totally gouged us on the price. They charged $25 extra for our disabled son to be in the room when they never charged extra for kids before on top of charging DOUBLE the regular price of the room because it was graduation weekend. They had purportedly remodeled but the improvements were very amaturish, obviously not professionally done. The beds were hard and the staff was nto very friendly. We will not go back here.

Area recommendations

Pacific has some good restaurants, nightlife and shopping. Of course the boardwalk is a must see, anad the coast both to the north and south is lovely.

“The worst motel I've ever stayed in”

PLEASE BE WARNED----this hotel is a dump and is terribly managed. Our room was dirty-paint peeling, cigarette stains in the bathroom, flithy carpet. The walls are paper thin and we were awakened at 4:30am by our upstairs neighbor who began pacing for 2 hours. Our room had not been touched in years. My mother stayed at a newly renovated room which at least was clean. However, she was called at 6 am by the front desk---a wake-up call that she didn't order. When I asked for a price reduction---they charged double their normal rate because it was "graduation weekend"--the management said there was nothing they could do . There are many motels in Santa Cruz-stay away from the Comfort Inn.

“Convenient, but cheesy”

The motel has a deposit policy that is at best inconvenient: $100 is required upon check-in. It is returned immediately upon checkout *only* if paid in cash. Otherwise, there is a 3-15 day waiting period. My room was clean, but worn. A closer look revealed chips, dents and scratches in furniture; stains and burns in rugs/upholstery. Darkened grout in bathroom. Breakfast is satisfactory if you are into carbo loading. Generic brand cereal and bread. Fruit of questionable freshness. Additional items varied, and appeared to be leftovers from catered events: one day, cheese cubes with toothpicks; another day, string cheese from the grocery store. Summary: a motel that is cutting corners, both in terms of maintenance and service. Conveniently located, cheaply priced, cheaply maintained. Caveat emptor.

Area recommendations

Ocean Street, where the Comfort Inn is located, is a commercial strip with cheaper lodging and restaurants (e.g., Denny's, MacDonalds). It is convenient to downtown and the beaches, but as a principal access route to Santa Cruz, it is not particularly appealing. Frequented by the homeless. "Beach Flats" likewise has cheaper lodging and dining facilities. It is close to the beach and Boardwalk. Funky would be a charitable description. My recommendation would be to find lodging in Capitola or Aptos. Be vigilant when it comes to Santa Cruz. Prices are inflated during the summer season. Make sure that your choice is safe (which may entail a higher price).
