Not a good experience. For the hotel rating and money paid, it's not worth it. No air condition in the room w/c I could understand it gets cool during the night but when we arrived in the afternoon hit and tired and the room is hot and stuffy, it's not very welcoming, I was told to open the windows but it's either deal w/ street noise or boil . Called the front desk and they sent a room fan (not too clean) and found out when I got home they charged my card $2.15 plus steep parking fee of $20.00. The outside corridor is quite dirty, the continental breakfast you can skip, won't miss anything. All in all I give this hotel 2 1/2-3 star rating!

One block away from WharfPosted Aug 13, 2014
Pros: Close to activities. Could also see the bay from my room (on top floor). Convenient parking in hotel garage ($20/day).
Cons: Small thing, but fresh coat of paint and touch ups in room would be nice. Apparently gets lots of use, so showing wear and tear.
Very close distance to the main wharf for concessions, restaurants, souvenirs, coffee. The main street (Alvarado St.) also a block away with more stores and restaurants. Easy drive to the rest of the Monterey Peninsula - Carmel, Moss Landing, Pacific Grove.

Beautiful hotel and great locationPosted Aug 11, 2014
Pros: Beautiful room, grounds, and very pleasant staff
Cons: Nothing really
Location: Great location near all activities, restaurants, shops
What a great find! It is older so does not have the shiny new look, but it has so much character! Huge rooms, comfy bed,, nice little balcony, fireplace. I was really happy with my room and will definitely return.

Didn't have a roomPosted Aug 11, 2014
I reserved a room two months in advance, but when I got there, they were out of rooms. The hotel staff didn't seem even remotely apologetic about this fact, and sent me to a dumpy motel outside of Monterey, despite the fact that I paid $250 for my room in advance.

Looks better in the photos than in realityPosted Aug 11, 2014
Pros: Its location. Rooms - large and comfortable for a family of 4.
Cons: 1. Staff could be more welcoming and engage better with the customers 2. Fresh paint throughout. 3. A good clean
Location: If you don't go to the Aquarium you are really misising out - it really is fantastic!
We were expecting something much classier than we actually experienced, given its billing as a romantic hotel and its rating on TripAdvisor. Place looked like it needed some tlc- a lick of paint and a good clean would not go amiss. The staff were polite but didn't really engage until we came to checkout - some basic courtesies and a smile or two would improve the experience. The hotel is tiled with terracotta tiles throughout and consequently the rumbling of the luggage wheels could be heard throughout. The breakfast was a good start to the day - fruit, cereals , bagels and drinks. The best thing about the hotel was its location. Close to many restaurants, the marine pathway and the star of the show the Monterrey Aquarium. Room size was large and the beds very comfortable.

In generalPosted Aug 10, 2014
The only problem was that they gave us a room that had stairs to get to the room after exiting the elevator.

Great hotel.Posted Aug 5, 2014
Cons: Nothing. A little pricey, but you get you pay for. Pet fee a bit steep.
Location: All attractions are within easy walking distance.
Close to downtown, and great restaurants, easy two blocks to Wharf and walk/bike trail. Cannery Row just down the trail less than a mile, walking along the bay. Dog friendly, parking, great grocery store on corner. Our room is always with a great eating area, refrigerator, microwave. Fireplace, decent balcony and plenty of space.
