“Most romantic getaway”
Maybe best hotel we've ever stayed at. Impeccable service. Old world feel. Place was golden for a romantic vacation.
“Very nice, BUT.......”
This is a charming and well maintained hotel and certainly top notch in the Carmel area. If you're not a "foodie" I would steer away from the hotel's restaurant, L'Aubergine, because the menu is a bit out of the ordinary. Our room rate included breakfast and we took a pass because we just didn't find the selections to be enticing.
“Best of the best”
For a perfect long weekend, a retreat that will help you unwind and renew like nothing else, Auberge hits the mark on everything from the finest dining (understandable that it is among the top 50 in the nation) to the most authentic in design and layout of its rooms and inner courtyard. The staff was exceptionally helpful, never intrusive, and always ready to assist with anything to make our stay as comfortable as possible.
“Beautiful, romantic, and quaint”
This hotel was beautiful, and managed to be both luxurious and quaint. The staff was incredibly friendly, and the on-staff sommelier was amazing!
Fabulous attention to service and care of their guests! For example, Carmel has very strict parking limitations but the hotel provides 24 hour valet service right to their front door. The hotel is located one block off the main street and is a 5 minute walk to restaurants, shops and the beach. The hotel itself has a excellent restaurant.
“Excellent stay in Carmel!”
I stay with my family in two rooms of the hotel and we really enjoyed our stay in Carmel. The room is very comfortable. The bathroom is specially nice: it's very spacious, with a heated floor. We had dinner at the restaurant, and the food was great. But I can say that the most special is the treatment given by the hotel staff: they really made us feel VIPs! I do recommend this hotel.
“Stay there to be pampered”
One of the best hotels where we have ever stayed. Staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. They met our every desire. The restaurant is fantastic and highly recommended for a gormet meal.
Excellent customer service!!! These people know what that term means. The breakfast was also excellent. Good location. No complaints. Will stay here again...
“High quality inn with lots of charm.”
Fantastic staff, service and food. Dining was a bit pricey but well worth the experience and the taste. The rooms were very comfortable and charming. The location was great - easy access to the middle of Carmel and a great place to begin your daily hikes from. The staff was very knowledgeable and helpful and always available.
We have stayed at this property many times over the years when it was the Sun Dial Inn. Great location and wonderful courtyard. The rooms were generally pretty nice with three of them having ocean views. After the new ownership came in and re-modeled and raised prices significantly, we stopped staying there. I recently checked on line and saw they had a fairly good deal on a courtyard king, so we booked for a week. Things have definitely changed since Sun Dial days. The L'Auberge is a much classier property. The rooms are nicely updated. The layout of our bathroom, with the stairs leading to the room upstairs dividing it in half, was kludge. The room itself was quite comfortable with large windows looking out onto the courtyard. The thing that sets this Carmel hotel apart from all the others we've tried (and there have been many), is the quality of the staff: outstanding. These are a well trained group who helped make for a delightful stay. Breafast was beautifully served each morning in the lovely dining room with great egg dishes and excellent attention from the wait staff. I don't even mind the $25 daily charge for tips as you don't have to reach for your wallet every time someone does something for you. The only negative: food is $$$$$. Watch out for room service. $75 for a plate of cheese & cookies. I highly recommend this hotel and will be back, especially when the have deals on the rooms.
