Excellent Get-away Destination

Cons: The hotel is older and though beautiful does not have AC, which can make it a bit uncomfortable if a rare heat wave hits.
Beautiful hotel with excellent staff. Fantastic location.

Close to the beach, shops and restaurants.

Pros: It was comfortable and in a very good position on Carmel.
Cons: Breakfast choice !
Location: The beach is wonderful we enjoyed walking there after breakfast. It is a short walk to the restaurants and shops. Hotel transport is available.
The hotel is in an excellent position, close to beach and within walking distance to the town, the garden and pool area superb. So peaceful. We found the breakfasts very disapointing, only sweet waffles and porridge for hot choice, some cheeses and cold meats were on offer and fruit etc. It would have been nice to have scrambled eggs and bacon sometimes. I am not sure if there air con in the hotel but our room was very warm at times.

Exceptional hotel, close to beach and village.

This is a lovely hotel. The staff is warm, friendly and at ease, while maintaining excellent professionalism. We were helped by them in many ways, including "insider" advice on side trips, restaurant recommendations, and starting our car's dead battery. (The engineering staff jump started us in less than 5 minutes after our request for help.) The hotel's gardens are large and beautifully maintained, very inviting. The pool is beautiful as well. The complimentary buffet breakfast is extensive and delicious, and the terrace seating is beyond pleasant. A sense of civilized calm pervades the entire hotel yet there is nothing pretentious about it. Only once in 4 days were we subjected to another guest talking in a public space on a cell phone. We felt totally at ease and relaxed in this beautiful place, which I cannot recommend highly enough.

Location near the beach is great, a definite must.

Pros: beautiful surroundings, great staff and excellent breakfast choices.
Cons: I would not recommend Grasings for dinner. we found the food mediocre and the prices way over priced for the quality.
Location: good location and so much to see in town as well as close to Montery and its aquarium. The 17 mile drive is also worth seeing.
Great place to meet people and share experiences My wife and I met friends from Rio Vista California and found plenty places around the hotel grounds to sit and chat. We will most definitely repeat this getaway again.

Great hotel! This is a wonderful hotel for a relaxing get away. The breakfast served on the patio in the morning by their friendly staff was the perfect way to start the day.

A few days in Carmel

Posted Apr 24, 2014
Pros: I liked everything about this hotel, but in particular, the staff.
Cons: I can imagine that air-con might be needed in the summer, but in April, it was comfortable.
Location: The location was excellent; centrally located between the beach and town, on a quiet street.
The hotel was perfect. The service in particular was stellar. It was evident from the very beginning that good, friendly service was a priority for the management. Our room wasn't quite ready when we arrived, and they happily bought us a cocktail on the terrace overlooking the sea. Our origional room wasn't quite the location we wanted, and they sent staff directly to move us, again happily and with good cheer. The breakfast buffet was great, and quite healthy. The bar was a very nice place to relax, and the bartender knew what she was doing. The drinks were of a very high standard, and she was a lovely, personable professional. I saw the staff deal professionally and gracefully with some very difficult guests, which I can imagine you get in this part of California. Very impressive. I would and will stay here again, hopefully many times.

Surprising gem

Pros: The breakfast was fabulous, there is also a great bar/lounge area on premises. Great view from the Pacific Terrace of both the garden area & ocean
Cons: Room sizes were a little small for two suitcases to be accessed, but this is due to the age of the property.
Location: Walking distance to shops, restaurants. Easy drive to Big Sur and Carmel Valley wine tasting
All the times we have been to Carmel in the past, we had never noticed this hotel before. It is just three short blocks to Ocean Avenue, the main business district through Carmel. The hotel is lovely, very well maintained and the grounds are gorgeous. All the flowers were in bloom. There is a wine tasting in the afternoon and breakfast included in the morning. Eric, the front desk manager made us dinner reservations for Saturday night and Isaiah, the shuttle driver made several excellent recommendations for places to try. The concierge called me a few days ahead of our stay to see if she could assist with any plans we needed to make.

Nice view and location. Small bathroom.

LaPlaya has beautiful landscaped grounds and our room had a nice ocean view. The property is well maintained and the staff is very helpful and courteous. Champagne brunch was nice but choices repetitive. Bathroom was extremely small and crowded. Pricy but it's Carmel so expected.
