Hard to see a hotel you like start to slip.

Posted Mar 9, 2014
To be fair, I've stayed at this hotel for years. Every time I'm in Monterey, I like to stay here, so to see it start to slip, was disheartening to me. There Cottages are roomy and comfortable. The rooms are a little dated, but clean. The problem is the holes along the floorboards in the bathroom. There is also the issue of the pipes for the shower sticking out of the wall, you should not be able to see the backend of the plumbing, just the showerhead. This is supposed to be a suite room. Overall I would recommend this place to friends, I just hope they fix the deficiencies in the rooms. The location is Premier, and the staff is very friendly and helpful.

Not the same

Posted Feb 24, 2014
Pros: The location to the ocean and golf course. The outside was pretty decent.
Cons: Major room improvements like chairs and room decorations. Seemed like the room was not completed when they painted. T
Location: Bike ride along ocean, walk or ride downtown drive or bike 17 mile drive.
The pictures on the web site are not the same conditions in reality. The rooms had furniture that was torn and worn and not comfortable (chairs). The room was very plain with paint on the wall that seemed like they were not done painting. The outside was not bad but the room was worn and the breakfast location was short of any ambiance and the buffet was short of variety.

close to beaches and good location

Posted Feb 20, 2014
Pros: location
Cons: TLC in the rooms
Location: close to beaches and downtown Pacific Grove.
The room smelled very musty. There was a foul smell outside of our room, the hot tub was cold our second night.

In town for a wedding!

Posted Feb 18, 2014
Pros: It is a very cozy hotel.
Cons: The heater on the pool was not working.
Location: Perfect location for us as we attended a wedding in Carmel Valley. A beautiful drive to Monterey and the Aquarium. A couple of blocks from the beach!
Our stay at the Lighthouse in was very comfortable! The staff was very helpful and friendly! Loved the location being only a couple of blocks from the beach!

Less than acceptable

Posted Feb 11, 2014
Pros: Location
Cons: Service
Arriving, I was underwhelmed by the condition of the room. We needed a dog friendly room, so that could have been a factor, but the upholstery was ripped on one of the chairs, curtains frayed, and in general just a touch run down. But the real deal breaker for us was as night came, I turned on the heat and it didn't work. When I called the front desk, they sent out maintenance and the gentleman told us the heater doesn't work – they are waiting for a part. I wonder why the hotel would check us in knowing the heat was broken. They offered us a space heater as a solution. At the price per night, I was livid at the thought of having a space heater. Fortunately we were refunded but had to find another hotel last minute as this one was fully booked.

Pleasant Stay

Posted Jan 23, 2014
Pros: It was clean, staff were American and very friendly & helpful. Room did not smell, as do some older hotels. And the location was perfect.
Cons: Bathroom Renovation and interior facelift, like flooring, moldings and fresh new modern linens and pillows.
Location: We went to a hydro-therapy spa for the day in Carmel Valley 10 minutes away. Carmel by the Sea is 5 minutes away. Monterey is next door. Beach access.
The outside was charming and within walking distance to ocean & lighthouse. The inside was dated and the bathroom needs renovating. The staff was awesome. The room was cozy, but again it needs a little updating. Breakfast was delicious. I never turned on the TV or used the pool or spa, but I did connect to Wi-Fi easily with hotel password. I will definitely return.
