Loved the location

Pros: Location
Cons: Beds
Loved the location of this hotel. However, the rooms are in need of updating. The beds especially. I had trouble sleeping. Otherwise, everything was O.K.

Nice View poor rooms

Pros: The view

Good value ... but some room for improvements

Pros: The obvious beauty of being right on Monterey bay. We saw dolphin and other marine life. The picture windows and seating in the lobby is awesome.
Cons: Still not sold on Beach Cafe on the top floor. We had a $50 breakfast. The granola in the yogurt parfait was stale (not crunchy). Portions are small.
Location: Enjoy walking the beach and the nearby trails to town. It makes for a great morning of exercise. Sit in the main lobby to watch the ocean and sea life
My wife and I have stayed here on our anniversary (October) over the last ten years. We skipped a couple of years when the prices increased rather dramatically (especially on ocean front rooms) and the hotel was no longer in our budget, but the draw of the venue along the ocean and our sentimentality for the place drew us back again this year. We chose a garden side room due to price and were able to make a special request the day we were to arrive to get the "true" garden room versus the poolside room which tends to be noisier and less relaxing. Check in was efficient (couldn't say the same for checkout). The hotel is rather old, but the recent upgrades have justified some of the price increases. The room was adequate but the TV remote did not function very well. The $18 daily parking was another wallet gouger (since there is no other real alternative to parking in this remote hotel, they should either build this into the overall room rate or provide it as a courtesy. Most hotels that charge for parking leave it as an option where there are other public lots to choose from. At this hotel, since there are no other parking options, charging separately as if there is an option is a joke).

Beautiful surf, OK hotel

Pros: Very close to a beautiful , accessible beach.
Cons: Stop charging for parking - that was really too much on top of the fairly high room rate. Its not as if there were any other way to get to the hotel.
Location: Beach, beach, beach.
This hotel is nothing fancy, but the view from the oceanside rooms is spectacular. The beach is beautiful, and watching the waves and the surfers is very relaxing. The room we had was small and the bathroom was tiny, but it was clean. A bit less than I expected for the price we paid, but I guess that's what you pay to see the ocean.

Overpriced with a tiny room

The only selling point of the resort is that it is located on the beach. It has a great view, no doubt! However, the room is really small and without many amenities like a Microwave, etc. The room service was extremely sluggish. I had to call twice just to get a towel and it arrived after 30 minutes, although my room was very close to the lobby. For a half-decent room, it was atrociously priced at about $300 for a night and $20 extra for parking. The most amazing part of my stay was when I called to inform that I will only be a few minutes late to check out after their standard time of noon. Most other hotels allow at least an hour of extra time. However, the lady at the front desk was extremely rude and said that 'I will charge you for a full night if you are even a minute late'. I've never heard such disparaging language at any hotel and I travel a lot and stay in many hotels. Overall, a disappointing experience and the worst ever at a Best Western. Will definitely not recommend it to anybody.

Great location and facility

Pros: Very friendly and efficient staff. Our A/C unit didn't work at first. A maintenance guy came very promptly and replaced the whole unit in 15 mins.
Cons: The room rate was fair but I felt gouged a bit having to pay $18 per night for parking. The hotel has plenty of parking and shouldn't charge for it.
Location: Great access to the beach and the coastal bike trail. Close to stores if you need it and a short drive to all of the sites on the peninsula.
Stayed 3 nights, Monday thru Wednesday. Very impressed with the maintenance of the building and grounds. We actually stayed here 35 years ago on our honeymoon and the place still seems modern. Decent size room. Very clean. Great view with very nice deck areas to sit and enjoy it.

Expensive hotel with additional charges

Location: location is good. near the highway, and the beach
It is a nice located hotel. however, the price is too high and the facilities are quite old. You have to pay additional money for parking and generally you can't book an ocean view room at a reasonable price...

View to beach was great best thing about stay.

Pros: Not much, except the view of the beach. The restaurant was great.The lobby was great.Landscaping was great.
Cons: Clean the rugs,shade screens. Make sure all equipment in room is in good working order. Replace bed mattress w/plush pillow tops.
Location: Great location just off the freeway.Asked for a upper ocean view room, was a great veiw for the room. Cannery row,Fishermans wharf,Monterey Aquarium.
Room was not clean at all. The rug was so dirty that when my husband walked on it and took a shower later, black color was coming off his feet from the dirty rug.A better look at the rug,it was black,not the green it should have been. Left room once and came back around 3 p.m and the room was still not cleaned so we had to sit down stairs and wait. The privacy shade had black mold on it from the moisture of the window. When we first got their the a/c didn't work, a maintenance came 30 mins. later, had to go down stairs and get another a/c unit and R & R 45 mins later. Tile in bath room had cracked chips all over. Refrigerator was missing the control knob, not knowing the tempature to set too.Bed mattress on bed was very thin and very uncomfortable.

Not my comfort level

Pros: Hotel staff very nice.
Cons: The room was very plain.
Location: Location good right on the ocean.
This hotel was a very low end hotel. The room was all cement. We just visited Alcatraz in San Francisco and the room reminded me of the jail cells. The hotel staff was wonderful and helpful. This hotel was not my comfort level

Monterey hotel with great beach view

Hotel is right on the beach. Rooms are clean. Restaurant is great. Would definitely stay here again.
