The staff is amazingly nicePosted Apr 11, 2014
Location: Quite windy on some nights so maybe bring a jacket. We really enjoyed the Restaurante Don Luis just down the road.
Grace was a superb host and we enjoyed chatting with her for what seemed like hours. She offered many ideas on how to experience monteverde in the short time we were there and really came through when we had mis-scheduled a tour for the wrong day. The area is secluded but close to some great restaurants and the dining recommendations were spot-on. We had a lot of fun at El Viandante Hotel and would recommend to any traveler to Monteverde.

good place to stay in MonteverdePosted Jan 10, 2014 on Hotels.com
The owners are great, very helpful and friendly in every way. Great breakfasts are included. Rooms clean and comfortable but mainly meant for sleeping and there are several comfortable and roomy sitting areas outside the bedrooms. It's a steep, short climb to the hotel if you are on foot, but taxis are cheap and available if you aren't in the mood. Stores and restaurants are easy on foot. There was an animal on the roof at night that woke us up some, but I think that's part of being in the cloud forest in Costa Rica.

Perfect stay to end our vacationPosted Jan 7, 2014 on Hotels.com
We absolutely loved El Viandante. Grace and Renzo were superb in every way. We really felt at home. Their family is adorable. Both Grace and Renzo went out of their way to help us. They were always available to answer any of our questions. If we decide to come back to Costa Rica, we will definitely stay with them again. Highly recommended accommodation.

Owner husband/wife team amazingPosted Jan 2, 2014 on Hotels.com
Had paid for a more expensive hotel before this in San Jose and the staff was rude. El Viandante was such a completely opposite experience. Though not fancy, as is often true, the people running it could not have been more helpful. They also gave a delicious full breakfast each morning in their upper room that looked out to the city of Monteverde and had sweet tree tables. Delicious and inviting. Felt right at home If you are looking for fancy, not the place but if you are out all day doing tours, could not be better. They booked tours, too!

Friendly, lovely hotelPosted Dec 15, 2013
Grace is amazing! She helped us out tremendously, basically helped plan our whole trip for us, gave us the best recommendations for which tours to take, which restaurant to go to, even what to eat! Seriously, she made our stay in monteverde! The place is spacious, comfortable and nice, very good wifi connection, delicious breakfast, even did our laundry for us at a cheap price! Also, walking distance from Choco cafe (which Grace also recommended) that has amazing coffee and awesome coffee bean prices! The zip lining, horseback riding, night tour, cloud forest and the scenery were all awesome, but Grace and her family (I'm assuming) were so friendly and awesome and made our trip!

Very Pleasant Stay and Good ValuePosted Aug 25, 2013 on Hotels.com
Grace and Renzo made us feel very welcome and gave excellent advice when we arrived about the best excursions and sights to see in our three day visit. Free breakfast was good, the room was clean and the bath large and very functional. It is a little far for 65 year olds to hike to downtown, but the cabs are quick and cheap ($2). The neighborhood is residential and mostly quiet, except for a rare yappy dog or motorbike. Since the ceilings are very high that fan is mostly decorative. Generally the nights are cool enough not to need more than an open window and they gave us a floor fan for more cooling on request. The views from the second story breakfast room are beautifully panoramic.

Fantastic connection to experiences in MVPosted Aug 21, 2013
Pros: Personal service and convenient location.
Cons: This is not a five star hotel but it is good value.
1. Quiet street, just off main road, but easy walk to town, cash machine. 2. Just a walk on the road is a whole experience - lots of insects, monkeys, things to see. 3. Simple accomodations - small hotel - home cooked breakfast each morning. 4. Best thing is Renzo - extremely knowledgable and connected with tours, experiences, and people - his recommendations and advice on where to go after MV were spot on and great. He'll make all necessary resos and provide you with local knowledge. He is Italian and speaks excellent English. We were a 7 and 9 year old, my daughter, and me and with his recommendations, our stay was fun, informative, active and all around perfect.

as good as a little inn in the mountains getsPosted Jul 27, 2013 on Hotels.com
It's a distinct category of accommodation: a couples dream to live in a beautiful vacation spot and meet travellers by opening a little mountain inn. this is an exemplary instance of that genre. the owner is friendly, patient, very helpful, and knowlegable. The place is clean, bright, with a good view way down the mountain to lake Arenal (from the breakfast room). It almost felt like a bed and breakfast. It is super eco friendly. I.e. no a/c and the hot water is a bit limited. It doesn't get very hot or cold in the mountains, so we were very comfortable. we plan to return.

A highlight of our Costa Rican trip!!Posted Jun 24, 2013 on Hotels.com
The hosts at El Viandante are truly kind and generous of spirit - they obviously love their work. Amid all the fabulous - but occasionally pricey - tours in Monteverde, we most enjoyed the amazing walk that Renzo invited us to join him on; we left at 5:30 a.m. and returned 7 hours later having walked through cloud forest, rain forest, primary & secondary forest and along the ridge tops of Monteverde & Santa Elena. It cost us nothing but time - and we were truly richer for the experience! The room was lovely and the breakfast room had gorgeous views and a place to watch for birds. We LOVED our stay!!
