Quiet lovely place near the centrePosted Sep 1, 2014 on Hotels.com
Quiet hotel near the centre of Monteverde, close to the forest, it actually has a hike trail nearby. The hotel is beautiful, the guy at the desk was very helpful with good advice (something valuable in a place with many offers like Monteverde), rooms are big and comfortable, breakfast generous and with great views!

Great Value - Enjoyable StayPosted Aug 28, 2014
My family and I spent two nights at El Viandante as part of a multi-stop vacation through Costa Rica in August. We enjoyed our stay here very much. - Our rooms, while not luxurious, were spacious, comfortable, and very clean, - Breakfast was terrific, especially the locally grown coffee, and - The location was perfect, very close to the Monteverde attractions, and just outside of the busy and noisy Monteverde "strip". What made the stay most enjoyable was the hospitality of the owner/operators, Renzo and Grace. They truly went above and beyond to meet all of our needs, and offered great advise on how to make the most of our two days in Monteverde. We will surely recommend El Viandante to our friends traveling to Monteverde.

Good base for activitiesPosted Aug 12, 2014
Location: Esteban - Daily guided tours in Monteverde Selvatura ziplining
El Viandante Lodge is a good base for activities in Monteverde and Santa Elena. The place is run by an Italian man and his American wife. They do a fine job. The breakfast is delicious – home made by the man of the house. The breakfast room is beautiful! The tables and chairs are rough honed from local woods and very rustic. The windows are big looking out to the sky. There are not that many rooms and they are perfectly adequate with wooden walls and ceilings. The hot water is good (not obvious in Costa Rica). We paid $75 per night including breakfast and taxes. I’d say it’s a good deal. Please note that it is best to have a car when staying here or to go with a tourist bus. It seems like a lot of the places here are a walk to the main little town of Santa Elena. There is a great Italian / pizza place right down the hill. We had our tour guide Esteban (he's great) drop us off here and we took the short walk up the steep hill afterwards. Check out Esteban - Daily Guided Tours in Monteverde. He's excellent and grew up locally.

Excellent!!Posted May 1, 2014 on Hotels.com
This was our first trip to Monteverde, and we were a bit skeptical upon our arrival to this hotel by its outward appearance. As the saying goes, "Don't judge a book by its cover! The rooms were lovely and spacious, bathrooms also very large. The owners were outstanding in their service and their friendliness. They accommodated our hours of activities to their breakfast time, and even packed us delicious cornbread for our travels when we had to leave very early in the morning with no time to eat! They were both a great resource for suggestions of activities we might wish to do, and helped us plan our stay, very patiently, I might add:) We also got some great exercise "hiking" back and forth to town center, although it's a minimal charge for a taxi if needed:) Also recommended is the Choco Cafe' down the street. The owner/operators are wonderful and the coffee is superb!!

The staff is amazingly nicePosted Apr 11, 2014
Location: Quite windy on some nights so maybe bring a jacket. We really enjoyed the Restaurante Don Luis just down the road.
Grace was a superb host and we enjoyed chatting with her for what seemed like hours. She offered many ideas on how to experience monteverde in the short time we were there and really came through when we had mis-scheduled a tour for the wrong day. The area is secluded but close to some great restaurants and the dining recommendations were spot-on. We had a lot of fun at El Viandante Hotel and would recommend to any traveler to Monteverde.

Location is up a pretty steep hill. Owners are super friendly and worked hard to make sure that our stay in Monteverde was great. Rooms were very clean. Our room was plenty quiet.

good place to stay in MonteverdePosted Jan 10, 2014 on Hotels.com
The owners are great, very helpful and friendly in every way. Great breakfasts are included. Rooms clean and comfortable but mainly meant for sleeping and there are several comfortable and roomy sitting areas outside the bedrooms. It's a steep, short climb to the hotel if you are on foot, but taxis are cheap and available if you aren't in the mood. Stores and restaurants are easy on foot. There was an animal on the roof at night that woke us up some, but I think that's part of being in the cloud forest in Costa Rica.

Perfect stay to end our vacationPosted Jan 7, 2014 on Hotels.com
We absolutely loved El Viandante. Grace and Renzo were superb in every way. We really felt at home. Their family is adorable. Both Grace and Renzo went out of their way to help us. They were always available to answer any of our questions. If we decide to come back to Costa Rica, we will definitely stay with them again. Highly recommended accommodation.

Owner husband/wife team amazingPosted Jan 2, 2014 on Hotels.com
Had paid for a more expensive hotel before this in San Jose and the staff was rude. El Viandante was such a completely opposite experience. Though not fancy, as is often true, the people running it could not have been more helpful. They also gave a delicious full breakfast each morning in their upper room that looked out to the city of Monteverde and had sweet tree tables. Delicious and inviting. Felt right at home If you are looking for fancy, not the place but if you are out all day doing tours, could not be better. They booked tours, too!
