Very nice hotel close to the beach

Posted Mar 11, 2014
Pros: Every thing, the hotel is small but cozy, the personal is very friendly and will help you every time that you need something.
Location: Very good location, close to everything:beach, restaurant, pizzerias, movies, shopping center
We stayed for 2 weeks and like a lot because you can walk to the Montevideo Shopping Center where you can buy gifts, clothes, go to movies, eat, also you will find slots machines. You can use for transportation buses or taxis because everything is close. You will find restaurant ,pubs,a walking distance. The hotel has an small gym and pool ,also a restaurant where the food is very good. The room are small but they have a fridge,TV ,a nice shower and very clean.

Great hotel for a decent price

Posted Mar 7, 2014 on Hotels.com
This a perfect hotel for a very decent price. The staff is superb, speaks English and the breakfast, included in the price and served until 10:30-11 weekdays, can replace your lunch. Rooms were decent and clean. The only bothering thing is that you have to login every time one uses the free WiFi internet access.

Pros: location was good.
Cons: Customer service. Greater interest by the hotel staff in the customer's comfort
Location: Location was good in that it was situated near shopping mall, bars, and restaurants.
This hotel is listed as 3-4 Star hotel. In my opinion it would be a 2 Star at most in USA. Specifically here are the reasons for marking down the quality 1) no internet availability for the guests. The lobby staff offered a laptop which was difficult to use and usually low battery status. 2) no ice making machine in the facility, 3) the swimming pool located on the roof was very small and the water was cold, 4) the electricity in the rooms was underpowered because it took long to recharge my cellphone (Samsung Galaxy S3) and could not recharge my electric toothbrush, 5) the breakfast menu and items were the choices every day for 13 days, 6) the minibar in the room charged very high prices in american dollars for any item consumed, 7) the rooms were not serviced every day, 8) the hotel charged even to call a taxi for the hotel guest. Bottom line: everything is driven by a guest charge and little service is offered in the room rate. Would not stay there again.

Pros: the service, the people, the rooms, the parking, the breakfast and dining room is average, but not terrible....
Cons: the breakfast and coffee quality, not much more....
Location: Montevideo is a great place to eat well, to walk and rest, to visit museums and galleries and of course beautiful beaches during summer....

Helpful, friendly place

Location: Across the road from the waterfront, beautiful sandy beach a little over a mile away - a nice walk. Appeared to be a clean, upscale area of the city.
The staff at Hotel After was outstanding in friendliness, greeting us anytime we left or returned. The front desk always had available someone who could provide directions, bus numbers, bus stop locations, etc. in English and they graciously printed plane boarding passes for us and made the arrangements for a car to take us to the airport. The facilities themselves were of modern decor, appeared to be new, and were always kept spotlessly clean. Breakfast each morning included a delicious variety of cold foods plus scambled eggs, bacon, and sausage as well as coffee, cocoa, and juice. We enjoyed both the rooftop patio and the outdoor seating area beyond the dining room. Hotel After made a very positive impression for the city of Montevideo.

The room was OK, the bed was not very comfy. Breakfast was mostly just self serv fruit juice coffee pastrys, nothing special. The location is pretty far from downtown but seems safer than the downtown area. The rooftop pool was mostly empty although the lounge and the small gym they have there is nice. I would not go here again, just was nothing special.

Nice hotel, spacious room. Good choice of food for breakfast, although the same throughout our 2 week stay. No transfer from airport or help in arranging one was unpleasant surprice. No tea/coffee making facilities.

Decent hotel, but not great value

Posted Jan 8, 2014 on Hotels.com
I spent 9 days in Montevideo, 5 of them were spent at After Hotel. I spent $125 per night, staff is friendly, all speak both English and Spanish, location decent, you can walk to a handful of restaurants, bars, not too far from water. Rooms were nice, but fairly small compared to a different hotel I stayed at in same city later in the week. Pros: bilingual staff, modern hotel, complimentary breakfast was very good, air conditioned rooms Cons: had dinner one night in hotel, bill was $29 dollars, I paid with cash of $40 dollars, I was told they didn't have change, my mom tried to pay with Uruguayo pesos and told the same, credit card was only option. This is a hotel that caters a bit to Americans, and you don't have $11 dollars in change? Ridiculous. Ordered lasagna for dinner, it wasn't good, server noticed I barely took 2 bites so she offered to take it off the bill, which was nice, then came back after talking to kitchen to say she couldn't take off the bill, since it had been already made, I didn't mind paying for it, but I do mind poor service, once you offer something to a customer you can't take it back. Lack of communication, I booked a tour of the city via hotel that coordinated with tour company, it was booked for 9AM, we get up early wait in lobby for tour bus to show up, there's someone from different tour there to pick up passengers but not us, after maybe 30 minutes of waiting, tour guide asks my name, he confirms that we're scheduled for an afternoon tour at 3pm since 9am one was sold out and tour company communicated this to front desk at hotel. So communication was pretty poor at hotel. Overall it was decent stay, but for the money spent there are better hotels in surrounding area.
