From Monticello, it's about 18 miles (29 kilometers) to the east to Champaign and 95 miles (153 kilometers) to the east to Lafayette.
While it can be tempting to just kick back and relax while vacationing in Monticello, keep in mind that Central Illinois' numerous scenic and cultural delights are never more than a day trip away. Interesting places within a relatively short distance of Monticello are Urbana, 20 miles (32 kilometers) to the west, and Forsyth, 20 miles (32 kilometers) to the east.
Organize some transport and visit Champaign, a regional center, located some 18 miles (29 kilometers) away from Monticello. The place has plenty of tourist attractions, such as Spurlock Museum, Memorial Stadium and Krannert Art Museum. University of Illinois Observatory, Parkland College and Assembly Hall are good places to visit.
