Road Trip!

Posted Jul 21, 2014
Pros: Ambiance, spaciousness, availability of room far ahead of check in time
Cons: Charge, while nominal, for checking bags prior to checkout was annoying-that's what tips are for
Location: J4L, street entertainment, shopping, walking distance to Old Montreal and Bonsecours market, restaurants for all tastes
Easy on/off from Via Rail to hotel; central to just about everything we wanted to do

It's lost some of its style in the last 7 years...

Posted Jul 17, 2014
Pros: The location above the train station.
I stayed at the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth 7 years ago and it was lovely. I had one of the best meals of my life at the Beaver Club restaurant in the Fairmont. Sadly, it closed last year and nothing has replaced it. My room was exceedingly small and seemed a bit tired, though comfortable. I remembered they had fabulous toiletries before, but their new brand was rather blah. Even the gift-shop was disappointing. Before, I bought several lovely things there. This time everything seemed either cheaply made or simply tacky. Overall, the hotel is fine, but it is no longer special.

Weigh the pros and cons

Posted Jul 15, 2014
Excellent location right downtown above train station. Huge food court/specialty shops with elevator access right to the lobby. Also connected to the underground shopping network where you can walk completely protected from the elements (too hot or cold) to the Bay, Eaton Centre, Simons, all the way to Peel St. All staff that I dealt with were courteous, polite, and professional. My only concern here is that the phones were not always answered bilingually. Unfortunately the problem with this hotel is in its physical attributes. Being a 60's built hotel the regular rooms are ridiculously small and certainly not up to Fairmont standards. A room with two doubles finds one of the beds pushed right up against the wall leaving the guest to climb in from the end. Plaster was missing from around the HVAC unit leaving exposed metal bracketing and there was a very obvious carpet stain. (leads one to wonder what else is dirty) On the first day I wiped my finger through dust so thick I couldn't believe it on the light mounted on the mirror at eye level. It remained there upon checkout 3 days later. Luggage rack had torn straps but was still in room for guest use and bathroom ceiling paint was flaking and peeling. Worst of all, at a Fairmont four diamond property there was NO IN-ROOM SAFE!!!! They suggested I use a safe deposit box. The idea of a nine floor elevator ride followed by a 15min wait for a desk agent just to change my jewelry or access some cash is NOT GOOD SERVICE!!!

Basic hotel, great location in downtown Montreal

Posted Jul 11, 2014
Pros: Great location, walking distance to downtown Montreal
Cons: The hallways and rooms could use some updating; the design is a bit stuck in the 90s.
Location: In the heart of downtown Montreal, walking distance to shopping on St. Catherines, restaurants, etc.
I stayed for 2 nights for business and got a good deal through expedia. Overall, the stay was fine but not exceptional. The room (king bed standard) was quite small and furnishings were a bit dated. The bed and pillows were comfortable. For the price, it was totally fine.

good hotel with excellent centre Montreal location

Pros: Excellent location in Montreal
Location: Excellent
Everything was good except that our room was near the elevators and we had the noise of the air flow from the elevator movement in our room. Room 486.

Thoroughly enjoyed the facility being close to the city action but also safe and exclusive. Huge and inviting main lobby area. Neat to be able to enter the subway straight from inside the Hotel. I want to go back to this Hotel again!

Excellent location for what we wanted to do.

Pros: The view was Beautiful, and I love the location. Lemon ice water is Awesome!
Cons: We hated the stocked fridge. Needed to store my medication, and contents are ELECTRICLY MONITORED!
Our train arrived at three, Check in is four. In order to go to a room we had to take a Smoking room which I hated. The previous visitors were cigar smokers, I had booked this holiday in January. Very disappointed.
