Convenient location above Gare Central

Posted Sep 22, 2014
Pros: As above
Cons: Nothing that springs to mind.
Location: Conveniently located above Gare Central, with a metro station near as well. Walking distance to Old Montreal.
Very comfortable, clean and conveniently located hotel. Helpful staff also made the stay pleasant.

City centre. Close to shopping.

Posted Sep 19, 2014
Pros: Staff was pleasant
Cons: Hotel dining room. 21/2hour wait for dinner! Totally unnecessary! No explanation given. Very disappointing!
Location: Close yo shopping. 45 minute walk to old Montreal.
Expensive for an average room. Staff was helpful and pleasant. Did I mention that for an average room it was very expensive!

Very central

Posted Sep 17, 2014
Pros: Central to other transportation like Metro or Via Rail, and walkable distance to other key tourist areas like Old Montreal (20 mins walk).
Cons: Room decor could use an update and some fixtures need to be fixed or updated (e.g. broken bathroom floor tile).
Location: Central, Old Montreal, Mont Royal, St. Catherines. Close to a lot of restaurants and shopping.
Although this is an older hotel it has been well maintained for the most part. Our room had a great view onto a plaza and it was clean. The room decor could use an update and some things need to be fixed (e.g. there was a broken floor tile in our bathroom). And we did see a couple of small spiders hanging around the windows and curtains. The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. But the thing I loved most about the hotel is that it is very central which makes it walkable to other areas like Old Montreal, Chinatown, even Mont Royal. As well the Central train station is located below the hotel so makes it easy to take Via Rail to other cities like Toronto or New York. The underground city is accessible from the hotel as well. Overall, it was a pleasant stay.

great location for the region

Posted Sep 16, 2014
Pros: service, location
Cons: prices at restaurant, temperature hotel in the room
Location: excellent walk to Mont Royale and the museum district. highly recommend the Musee des Beaux Arts, and Old Montreal.
The location of Le Reine Elizabeth can't be beat---close to Vieux Montreal, McGill University, the museum quarter and the Quartier des Spectacles, not to mention that it is literally right on top of the train station. Our family of four stayed there for 5 nights. The room was meticulously kept up and the beds very comfortable. The room was a bit smaller than at most of the Fairmont hotels that we have stayed in. The staff were very nice. The concierge staff were exceptionally helpful with both restaurant recommendations and plans for day trips, including an outstanding one to Quebec City. The bar made the best gin and tonic that I have ever had (and I'm afraid I have had many, in many countries). My only negatives were that the hotel restaurant that is open for breakfast was very expensive and had very slow and indifferent service, not to mention extremely high prices, and that it was hard to control the temperature in the room. Otherwise it was a marvelous stay.

Historic hotel showing its age

Posted Sep 15, 2014
Pros: We liked the convenient location and the view of the beautiful basilica.
Cons: I suppose it is expensive to keep up these grand old hotels, but maybe at least start with free wifi.
Location: We enjoyed the access to the underground shopping on rainy days and for quick breakfasts.
We had an acceptable stay. Everything was adequate. However, for the price of staying at a Fairmont we expected more than adequate. The washroom was small, the porcelain in the sink was crackled, the towels were brittle with frayed strings hanging down. The extra fees for wireless are silly in this day and age, especially given the already high room rates. The large piece of hotel artwork in the room was a depressing, colourless sketch of an apparently dead tree. When we checked in the staff tried to upsell to a more luxurious room for an extra fee. After having seen our room I wonderd what their idea of "luxury" would be. I love sitting in hotel lobbies but found the furniture there to also be worn and shabby.

Nice but a little dated

Posted Sep 9, 2014
Comfortable stay. Good location. Bed sheets were old and worn and the bath room needs to be updated (sink had cracks and chips). The thermostat in our doesn't work very well. Room was too warm even when the temperature was set to the lowest. Everything else was working perfectly and room was always kept very clean.

DIRTY ROOMS. DIRTY HOTEL. DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL

Posted Sep 8, 2014
We rented a room for three nights. They put us in two separate rooms. The first room was filthy. Stained carpet, wallpaper peeling off the walls, chips in all the furniture and walls. We complained and they sent us to another room, a bit better, though same issues. This hotel is not well kept. The pool also is very dirty and moldy. I was not happy at all with our stay. Also the staff was unfriendly which didn't help. We paid $200 a night and were very disappointed. We will never be staying at a Fairmont again.

Decent hotel, but uncleanly conditions

Posted Sep 6, 2014
Hotel wasn't too bad, but the staff sent me to an already occupied room to start, then had to get a new room. Once I got to the room, I was afraid to open the window because it was covered with spiders on the outside. To no surprise later, I found spiders in my room, including a rather large one crawling across my bed. Definitely not what you want to see in a hotel.

Dear Guest - We sincerely apologize for this recent experience. We're very sorry to hear about the mistake at the reception desk and we will most definitely look into the matter to better understand the circumstances behind this error in the room assignment. With regards to the spiders found in your guest room, we do understand your disappointment. We're still able to open the windows in our guest rooms and we suspect this is what happened with the previsous guest who occupied the room. That being said, we're committed to high standards of cleanlliness and this will be seriously reviewed again with the team. We sincerely apologize for not providing you with the experience you expected and appreciate you bringing this unfortunate incident to our attention. Kind regards.

Labor Day Visit

Posted Sep 5, 2014
Pros: We liked the overall ambiance and the proximity to local attractions and restaurants.
Cons: The bathrooms need to be re-wallpapered. They looked a little old and outdated but other than that it was very nice.
Location: It was close to the major highways, restaurants, shopping, Old Montreal and the underground city. We recommend a day trip to Quebec City by Grayline
The experience at Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth was very nice. It was a well kept facility and it was close to everything. My husband and I walked almost everywhere we went. We did have a chance to attend the afternoon tea which was a bit of a disappointment though. The ambiance was not very inviting as they stick everyone who dines for afternoon tea in the back corner next to where all the buses and cabs park. Also, the china they used was very plain jane, not like the kind that is shown in all of their advertisements. If you are from the U.S. and need to exchange money, the hotel will do it free of charge which was a nice perk. Part of the underground city is right beneath the hotel and it came in handy when we wanted a quick nosh. All the food in Montreal was delicious! The people are very nice and our overall experience was great. Also, do not forget to sign up for their President's Club which offers a lot of great perks to guests.
