“Wonderful Room!”

I just stayed the one night, but it was a delightful surprise. I wasn't sure what to expect, but it was the cutest room - had a little patio, even. Very roomy - had everything I needed! Thank you so much.

“Couldn't believe the value for the price”

Everything was better than I expected for the price. Good continental breakfast and they were extremely helpful in arrangements to send an item we left there. The manager was great.

“Unexpected features”

What a nice surprise to find an infrared heater in the bathroom. Also had a walk-out patio from a side door (but this was a corner room). Good to have a fridge and a microwave. The bed was neither too hard nor too soft. The windows appeared to be recently upgraded. The seamless tub surround is appreciated, and is a huge improvement over the nasty grout one usually finds at this price level. The worst part of this room was the extremely poor lighting! Not enough lamps, and the low-wattage bulbs were a huge disappointment; this is very misguided cost-cutting on the part of ownership. Do I have to bring my own light bulbs when I travel?!? Also on the down side, the heater/AC fan was extremely loud. Lots of traffic noise, as this is located on a main highway through town. Did not check out the breakfast. Internet connectivity was strong (and no-charge). Would stay here again, as the price was right and the extra, unexpected amenities offset the demerits.

Area recommendations
Did not explore the neighborhood.

“Good location”

The Black Canyon motel is a great location for visiting the area. The room we stayed in was nicely appointed and clean. I have stayed there before so coming back I knew what to expect and I was not disappointed.

Area recommendations
Montrose is a small town and has everything you need to be comfortable. It is a jumping off point for side trips to the near by mountains. The western slope is one of our favorite areas to visit. Good food at the Red Barn is a must.
Dining
We ate at the Red Barn twice. BBQ at Rib City is yummy.
Family-friendly activities
Thursday nights during the summer is walk about town night. Some of the streets are closed down and people come out and just take a stroll and visit shops and a few vendors with food are about.
Outdoors or beach
Easy access to the mountains. Telluride, the Olathe Corn Festival, Owl Creek pass and Silver jack lake are close by. Just a good area to hang out in.

“Will likely stay here again”

Reservation was for queen bed, but got king bed for same rate. Room had refrigerator and microwave. Room had obviously been remodeled in the recent past, so was quite clean. Good location, kept A/C unit fan running all night, but all three nights were very quiet. Continental breakfast was pretty much standard fare for today and did include a waffle making machine. Food area was a little small, but OK if you were not in a big hurry. We have been staying in this town for many years at different places, and for the money, we will likely stay at this one again.

Area recommendations
Doesn't really matter; the town is not all that large, and all areas are about as acceptable as any of them

“Pretty good place to stay”

Cheap and super close to the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, which is great! Not a fancy hotel, but definitely inviting after a day at the canyon.

“Best Deal in Montrose, CO”

I took my son for a visit to the Black Canyon National Park and we stayed at the Black Canyon Motel. We were very pleasantly surprised. It was very reasonably priced, clean, comfortable, and the breakfast was very good. I'd recommend this motel to anyone and we will certainly stay again if we visit Montrose in the future.

“Amazing Value!”

I wasn't expecting much for such a low price. I was bowled over with the size and quality of the room! Very impressed. I will definitely stay there again and recommend it to others.

Dining
Check out Coffee Trader just down the street. Friendly service, great coffee and relaxed atmosphere to send a few e-mails, read the paper or just hang out.
