Amazing resort but not very friendly staff

Posted May 29, 2014
We arrived at the resort early (8:00am) due to our flight but check-in was not until 2:00pm so we were not able to check-in until after 2:00pm. There was no real effort to try to get us into a room early despite the fact that the resort was not even full, and the fact that we told them we were on our honeymoon. We wondered around the resort for a bit until just to check the place out. We wanted to get some breakfast but was told that since we had not checked in yet, we would have to pay a different price for the buffet breakfast as we were not considered "guest" at the hotel yet. Because we were from the US and didn't speak French we were treated like second class citizens. It was definitely noticeable that the guest who spoke French received better treatment and attention than those that didn't. We did; however, encounter a couple of staff at Pure restaurant who were very pleasant & helpful. On a positive note, once we checked into our overwater bungalow, we were in paradise. The overwater bungalows are awesome!! It's a little pricier but I think it's the best way to go. We snorkeled right off our deck, and the fish were amazing!!

Terrible reception

Posted May 21, 2014
This hotel is not happy to receive clients. They do not welcome you and treat you like cattle bullying you about returning towels. Youth hostel treatment. Only exception is the cheerful activities guy on the beach.

A week in paradise

Posted May 21, 2014 on Hotels.com
My husband and I just spent a week at the Sofitel la Ora and are now in Bora Bora. I can honestly say I much prefer Moorea and could stay at the Sofitel forever! Moorea feels less touristy, more relaxed and rich in culture. It's such a wild beautiful island that remains largely untouched. The bungalows at the Sofitel are beautiful and well maintained. We stayed in a luxury garden bungalow to the left of the restaurants and activities buildings. All the bungalows in this area are well situated with lagoon views, unobstructed by the overwater bungalows. The sun rises on this side of the island and it's beautiful to watch the colours shift from the comfort of your bungalow or the beach just a few steps away. They may be a bit of a walk from the main buildings and the parking lot, if mobility is an issue for you. The beach is fantastic! The snorkeling is amazing! The hotel has a reef stimulation program that is thriving around the overwater bungalows. We rented a car from Avis as it's difficult to get around on your own otherwise. Our only complaints are the service inconsistency and terrible wifi. Suzanne at reception was fantastic! Restaurant service was bordering on terrible. Bar service was slow but very friendly. Food was decent. Wifi is incredibly slow. Don't expect to do anything other than sending emails from a smart phone/tablet. Laptops seem to have a better reception. Works best near the pool/bar. But who really needs wifi in paradise anyway?! I would return to the Sofitel la Ora in a heartbeat, I'll just eat elsewhere.

The Ultimate in Relaxation

Posted May 21, 2014 on Hotels.com
The Sofitel Moorea Beach Resort is truly a world class relaxation destination. Situated on what is arguably the best beach on Moorea, all of the units are bungalows (other resorts are a combination of traditional buildings with some bungalows). The Sofitel Bungalows are divided into completely over-water units, beach front units and garden units. Most of the garden units face the ocean and aren’t that far away from the water but may be obscured by another unit in front of it. Ours was a beach front model and I laid in bed and looked out at the waves and views across to Tahiti for six days. Very peaceful. It seems that honeymooners make up the biggest group of guests with a few families. The remainder of the guests are 40+ couples. It is very quiet, laid back and low keyed with a world-wide population. French is the universal language throughout the islands.

Lovely hotel, great location, surly staff and some

Posted May 19, 2014 on Hotels.com
The hotel is fab - everything you would expect from a luxury hotel in terms of setting facilities etc, however whilst 50% of the staff seemed fun and relaxed and friendly the other 50% were downright surly. The wifi at the hotel is almost a waste of time in terms of accessibility and speed and ease of use - to add insult to injury - AFTER PAYING $600 A NIGHT FOR THE HOTEL THEY CHARGE YOU FOR IT. They have another downright cheap rude policy which is that they make you pay for the Nespresso capsules used for the coffee machine UNBELIEVABLE - these issues tarnished for us what should have been a great week - the good news for the management is they're pretty easy to fix if you have the leadership?

Dear Madam, Dear Sir, First of all, we would like to thank you for having taken the time to write your comments regarding your stay in our hotel and please, accept our apologies regading the issues you encountered. The connection is very slow and we are working on it by adding more cables with a second cservice provider and we hope it will be effective very soon. We have tea and coffee facilities in all our bungalows which are free of charge and we add a nespresso machine in some of our rooms for which we pay for to the company who installed it. Please, do not consider these explantion as excuses and again, please accept our apologies . We also assure you we take good note to all your comments which will help us to inprove the quality of our services. Best regards, Mr Olvier de Ronseray Area General Manager

beautiful stay

Posted May 3, 2014 on Hotels.com
I enjoyed the OTW bungalow (luxury choice), its deck (lounge chairs on the deck), the view from the deck (overlooked the bay), the ability to snorkel from the deck and see AMAZING sea life (clams, a wide variety of fish), and colorful coral. The snorkel equipment was free for the duration of my stay. I highly recommend the boat tour ($99) because you get to swim with stingrays and sharks, and see spinner dolphins. The boat captain and assistant were great guides for the tour.

Definitely Glad We Stayed At a Resort

Posted Apr 13, 2014 on Hotels.com
The Sofitel Resort has beautiful grounds, an amazing beach and lagoon area to snorkel in and the bungalows are very clean and nice. We stayed in a garden bungalow and it was perfect. The staff was friendly and helpful. Room service was excellent and fast. The food we ate at the Pure restaurant was very good. We liked the help booking our two excursions for the ATV and jet ski tours. They picked us up and dropped us off at the resort. It's pretty close to the Ferry port and the Champion grocery store. The other resorts were quite a bit further away. They let us store our luggage and change clothes since we got there early. That was helpful. There is only one thing that was bothersome, and that was having to pay for the wifi, which might not have even been so bad if it was decent wifi, but I wasted a lot of time trying to connect. Everything else about the resort was wonderful and we would definitely go there again.

Lovely hotel pricey for what you got,

The overwater bungalows were cool, but the overall maintenance of the resort and the prices of both the rooms and amenities were expensive.

Will return

We loved it there. Had the best snorkeling we've ever had. Even better than Great Barrier Reef and it was just off our own private dock. Had a wonderful dinner at K and Pure. Hostess at Pure had attitude and would not seat us at table outside that was never used the whole night! The location is great and not far from the ferry.
