Bohemian alternative but a bit extreme

Posted Jun 29, 2014
I choose Artel because I wanted something a bit different and I certainly got that. It has amazing character but it's a bit of a challenge. It has the look and feel of a hotel created by a group of students trying to make a designer/art hotel on a budget. The result has flair and improvisation mixed with a dash of Berlin in the 1930s, on account of the crumbling 19 th century apartment block it is located in. You have to make your way up to the third floor in a clunky Soviet lift. The bedrooms are quite wild - one had amazing have painted walls with UV paint which glowed in the dark. Unfortunately there was no window ( I didn't realise, when booking, that 'no view' meant 'no view at all'). The breakfast is a small basic continental served in your room. On the upside the young staff are really helpful, it's right beside Red Square and there is a wonderful louche bar like something from the Titanic. If you want a totally different experience from the usual boring stuff and don't mind weird stuff and discomfort then go for it.

not for business, and not for pleasure, for saving

Posted Oct 15, 2013 on Hotels.com
it is what it is. if you are looking for business rest, it is not here. if you are looking for pleasure, it is not here. what is here, is dry, off the streets. staff was excellent, but no windows in rooms stale air, old beds, as stated if in a pinch and short of cash use as the location is excellent.

Far too noisy

Posted Sep 3, 2013
Pros: Location.
Cons: Noise level.
Really loud music most of the night and morning. Really good location but too tired to take advantage of it because of lack of sleep.

Very central! In the middle of Moscow.

Pros: Location
Cons: Noise! Bars downstairs are so noisy. Sometimes it is hard to sleep.
Location: 100-200 meters from Bolshoi Theater and Kremlin. Cafes, restaurants and metro stations near by.

OK for student / backpacker / unperturbed!

Pros: Location
Cons: Lighting
Location: Excellent
It is in a fantastic location, although a little difficult to find, use the hotels website to get image of what to look for. It is just about ok if all you are after is a place to rest your head. Cheap [for Moscow] and a superb location around 5 minutes walk from Red Square.
