"Seeking a Rustic Experience on Sicialian Hillside?"
The proprietor of this large home (on a side street within the Sciliian town of Trecastagne near Mount Etna) was warmly attentive and informative -- a perfect host. His lack of English and our lack of Italian was not a barrier. We visited off season, early February 2012, and because of the cold and rain the rooms stayed chilly, although we were cozy enough when close to the small electric heater provided. The downstairs space we occupied included two twin beds for children in one room as well as the double bed for us in another. A small family could be accommodated here. The kitchen for guests was separate and well-equipped. The backyard featured some orange and lemon trees, overlooked an olive grove, included playthings for younger children, and an older Mazerati up on blocks. We enjoyed the oranges the host had grown in his yard. It is not the easiest place to find. However on the autostrada from Catania to Messina there is, just after the toll booth, an exit marked Trecastagne, and further signs do get you to the town. Once there, some small signs are posted to the front gate. The nightly fee was half of what we are accustomed to paying in hotels. Mount Etna is often shrouded in fog and clouds. Hope for sunshine! We enjoyed our stay.

"Great Spa Hotel excellent food with a view of Etna"
The location is very rural, in the Bove Valley north of Etna, a wine growing region, really very remote and has a spectacular back drop of the northern side of Etna the nearest town is Linguaglossa. Located 11 miles from Taormina and only about 15 minutes off the toll road.
An ideal location for trekking into the volcanic regions and getting away from everything, the views are great and facilities very good indeed, the spa and restaurant at the hotel are both recommended.
The menu offers a four course set meal with local wine (very good) at 45 Euro, A la Carte is more expensive but very good indeed, be warned you actually get 6/7 courses with the extra bits thrown in, top quality stuff.
A car is a must have and be warned many of the local roads just cease to exist without warning, a amp is needed as sat nav keeps dropping out, the staff were very helpful and really friendly English being spoken by most.
Easy drive to Etna cable car (via toll road) about an hour, the same to the airport, 25 minutes to Taormina (don't drive in Taormina park at the lower cable car is not a driving place!).
All in all a lovely setting for a few days break in a very luxurious hotel spa we would certainly return and recommend.

Fantastic 5 star find and Expedia special rate was an incredible bonus but you need a car to get there and around. Once off the highway it's one road but you've got 30 minutes of climbing with lots of turns. Plan to get there in the daytime until you learn the road. Elegant and modern building, full spa, outdoor pool and beautifully appointed rooms and common areas. Surrounded by golf course and vineyard perched on the northface of Mt. Etna volcano. You see the steam rising and snow on the cap. 45-60 minutes from Taormina (don't miss it) Giardini Naxos(the beaches city).Plenty to chose for breakfast and all staff friendly and helpful. A/C; good size washroom; good beds; fridge and mini bar; flastscreen LCD etc. and our room had a patio with good privacy. Place is absolutely spotless. Some of the artwork was "interesting". They offer dinner but we ate out.

Staff, particularly the Reception staff, were excellent and couldn't be more helpful. The facilities are outstanding particularly pools and spa, grounds, location, buildings and public rooms. To be critical, the room we were in was a bit small but with a large balcony with superb panoramic views and the bar area was a little sparse. Our shower needed some maintenance to the curtain and shower head but compared to the positives that were so many, these were minor points.

we had been staying at a B&B on the east beach, which had no AC and was only just starting up, so we needed to make a change. the other communities did not offer anything we liked but our friends from Catania told us about this hotel. It's a business hotel with clean crisp rooms and the staff was very helpful. The 'buffet' salad, etc. in the restaurant was wonder. The only draw back was the breakfast room in the morning was so 'hot' and not a pleasant place to eat and drink coffee.

"Memorable - if not quite as good as it could be."
Beautiful rustic building - in a peaceful location, surrounded by chestnut trees, on the slopes of Mount Etna. Newly furnished room was tastefully decorated with a view of the mountain, and everything worked.
Good home-cooked dinner was reasonable value - which was fortunate, given the lack of any alternatives within walking distance. Breakfast was adequate if rather unimaginative (lacking any fresh local ingredients) - and was served outside on the terrace when the sun was shining.
The staff were friendly and hospitable, but disorganised, and spoke no English, so communication was a problem for us - and payment was cash only (despite Expedia's promise that credit cards were accepted)
We enjoyed our two-night stay, but wished for just a little more attention to detail, and a more imaginative breakfast menu. Then it would be perfect!

Hotel is a great base for visiting Etna and surrounding towns as Taormina, Catania, Siracusa and Agrigento. We could easily take day trips from the hotel to Piazza Armerina (Villa Romana del Casale) and Gole dell' Alcantara, The drive from Bronte to the north coast was beautiful as it takes you through the Nebrodi Park and forest. Took the coastal road and drive from Acquedolic to Cefalu beautiful fishing villages and Sicilian pottery shops. Pedara is a special town has several Bars and Pizza Restaurant's, my wife is gluten free, we had no difficulty finding even pizza gluten free. The hotel staff and management were very helpful, we needed to rent a car, so they helped us contract a nice Fiat with GPS, insurance and all needed paper work. The bus service is good for getting around the island, but a car makes it easer to get around and you can get off the tourist trails.
