“No problems”
We had no problems with this hotel, although we thought it was rather expensive compared with other hotels we stayed at during our two and a half weeks in the Rockies region. Perhaps this was because we went at the time of the annual motor cyclists' rally at Sturgis, 45 miles away. There were literally hundreds of motor cyclists in Custer at the time, and literally tens of thousands within a 50 mile radius of Sturgis. Although there was never any trouble, some inconvenience - nothing to do with the hotel - was experienced in terms of motor bike noise and nearby towns where there was nowhere to park and walk around for an hour or two, simply because the centres were taken over by motor bike enthusiasts. So our advice would be to try to avoid staying in the area during the week-long August rally.
“Nice spot in South Dakota”
Used this as a hotel as a base to visit Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse and to get a feel for this part of the States. Hotel is on the edge of town and is within easy walking distance to its centre. It is next door to The Flinstones Park (if you have kids) - or in my case a wife who grew up with the Flinstones. Hotel is typical American - everyone is polite, facilities are great value and the place worked. Breakfast choice was limited but perfectly adequate. Room was large and had all mod cons - no complaints there. Infact no complaints at all. Hotel met all of my needs and was a great base for this part of the States.
“Perfect hotel for visiting Custer State Park”
Really good site on outskirts of town, with pleasant views. Good car parking area also, giving feeling of space and relaxation.
“Very convenient to Crazy Horse and Mt. Rushmore!”
The only drawback was the height of the doorway entrance to the room. I'm 6'6" and hit the top of my head on the door jam a couple of times when entering the room. If you are over 6'5" you'll have to duck. Other than that everything was fine!
“clean and good for tourist location”
Typical condition and cleanliness for a major brand motel. No complaints from me other than the room was quite small. Young lady staffing the breakfast area was very cheerful.
“Buffalo Ridge Inn, Custer, SD”
Buffalo Ridge Inn is a sort of combination of a regualr hotel and motel style rooms, therefore some of lrager deluxe rooms open onto the outside. Don't let that put you off though. Nice clean pool, albeit cold! Friendly helpful staff, free internet (wifi) so you don;t have to be out of touch from everybody. Breakfast area is quite small, and was v.busy especially becasue it was the week before Sturgis bike rally but farily easy to get something and take it back to your room if necessary or you are feeling a bit hermit-like! Note, I think the place shuts for the winter, but Super 8 notel across the road stays open in the off season.
“Just ok”
I was looking for two rooms connected since I was traveling with a teen boy & girl (not related) but found a two room suite. The room was clean but had a strange musty-like smell. It was definitely convenient to everything in the Black Hills and a short walk to restaurants. The kids really liked the mini golf course right across the street. Plenty to eat at breakfast but needed more seating. Front desk personnel were extremely helpful and courteous. Kids thought the beds were extremely comfy! However, they were disappointed the pool closed at 10pm since we didn't get back from lighting ceremony at Crazy Horse til after 10!
“Rushmore hotel - good for the area”
Hotel is standard older type but kept up fairly well. Given the area, there are not too many good choices, but if you can stay in Custer State Park lodges it is worth it. No complaints, but nothing special either.
“Seven night trip, 5 different motels, this one was the best!”
Seven night trip, 5 different motels, this one was the best! Person at check-in was great, very helpful. Breakfast was great too. Better than anything in town.
“Buffalo Roundup”
We spent two nights at this location and found the Best Western Buffalo Ridge Inn to be convenient and comfortable. Service at the front desk was good although it seemed to be understaffed on several occasions where we had to wait for other guests in front of us to conclude their business when there was only one clerk working. Breakfasts were just OK. Not s good as others we have had where a continental breakfast is included. We went out to breakfast the second morning.
