A pleasant little surprise!Posted Sep 15, 2014
Pros: The peace and quiet, lovely location, and the hardworking, friendly staff
Cons: The phone/voice mail system. I kept getting stuck in it when I called to confirm my late arrival
Location: Hedge Creek Falls--a great little hike, with beautiful falls. Dunsmuir city park--nice woodsy park on the Sacramento River.
I needed a place to stay on my way back from a long west coast trip on I5, and did not want to stay in Redding. So I took a chance on this little motel, which is right across the freeway from one of my favorite short hikes, Hedge Creek Falls. When I tried to call to confirm my late arrival at Oak Tree Inn, I couldn't get anything but voice mail--5 times. So when I got to the hotel at 11:30 pm, my expectations were pretty low. I was checked in cheerfully at Penny's Diner next door by a friendly fellow who was doing diner cleanup. My room was clean and very comfortable and soundproof. I slept like a baby. In the morning, I had a delicious complimentary diner breakfast, cooked by the very cheerful person who waited on me, and who would later clean my room. Overall, my experience at Oak Tree Inn was great, and I got to go for a short hike at the Falls after I checked out. The Dunsmuir city park, also right across the freeway, is a beautiful woodsy park. Nice surroundings and a great alternative to Redding as a place to stay. I'll definitely come back, since I make the west coast trip often.

Secluded location surrounded by treesPosted Sep 14, 2014
Pros: Double windows insure a quiet room despite being near the highway.
Cons: Front door (activated by room key) is a bit difficult to open.
Location: Lake Shasta is a short drive, but due to the drought conditions the water is very low.
Facility appeared to be very new and was squeaky clean. Staff was very helpful and courteous. Complimentary breakfast was delicious.

Lovely TripPosted May 21, 2014
Pros: Free breakfast was really tasty and filling !!!
Location: There is a beautiful hiking trail and a waterfall nearby in walking distance and a very cute little town if you have a car.
Went there to get away for w few days. Very clean, cozy, private. Free breakfast was delicious and I was most certainly impressed! The price is WAYYY cheaper if you don't use Expedia though.

Could Be BetterPosted Apr 9, 2014
Pros: The diner.
Location: Not much going on in March. The summer months might be different.
Not the best motel but maybe the best in the town as it was one of the few opened for guests. No elevator. The motel puts up railway workers on the GP Line. Enough said. The diner is opened 24 hours and serves most anything that can be fried or deep fried. Good hearted diner staff.
