Good choice in Southern Illinois

Posted Jul 26, 2014
Pros: Its accessibility--right off the highway.
Cons: Air conditionion system was a bit loud, and really cold. When turned down it seemed to wait too long to go back on.
Location: Close to the highway. We didn't look for any local attractions.
Our reason for traveling to southern Illinois was to attend a funeral, and this hotel afforded us a reliable and restful place to stay. The staff was pleasant and accommodating. The breakfast was decent, although they could do away with the dry sweet rolls.

a place to crash

Posted Jul 10, 2014
Pros: Easily accessible from the interstate.
Cons: The beds!! Terribly uncomfortable.
Location: The Denny's about a half a block away was amazing!
We needed a 1/2 way spot to crash on our way back home from southern GA. For the price of the room and the appearance from the outside I would have expected more. The beds were not comfortable at all (imagine sleeping on a box spring)...definitely not appealing after being in the car for 9 hours and facing another 9 hours on the road. The A/C didn't seem to work right...The thermostat said 68, but it was very humid/muggy in the room. Hotel offered breakfast for a price, but we chose to go halfway down the block to Denny's - amazing food!

Disappointing!

Posted Jul 8, 2014
Pros: The pool is large.
Cons: Housekeeping and maintenance are big problems.
Location: Lots of restaurants and other hotels were close and it was near the intersection of major interstate highways.
Room was not clean; hair on bathroom floor. Open/used pop can was in fridge. Bedding smelled like perfume of previous guest. Closet door was almost impossible to close. Sink faucet leaked. Our only option was to move rooms. Since each problem was discovered over time, we ended up just staying in that room. We will not go back even though we have stayed here several times.

Exterior looked updated, but room was old & tired!

Posted Jun 23, 2014
The Holiday Inn in Mount Vernon, IL was a last-minute booking as we were trekking back from our Florida family vacation. Unfortunately, the availability of a double bed room, non-smoking was not accurately reflected on the Expedia site or their own corporate web site. We were confirmed for double beds, non-smoking for our family of 5, but upon check at 11:00 pm, they did not have it available. The family in front of us opted to cancel. We should have done the same, as the room with the King Size bed was old, tired and in desperate need of an update. Staff handled the situation okay, but they never delivered the extra pillows or blankets. I realize it was late in the evening, but they could have tried a bit harder to accommodate us. We'll be going the route of a Fairfield Inn or Hampton Inn for those impromptu hotel stays in the future.

Decent room at a good rate

Posted Jun 8, 2014 on Hotels.com
Hotel is a bit dated on the inside but its clean, the individuals at the desk were friendly and helpful. It wasnt a long stay but the breakfast is good and the amenities are ideal. For those that enjoy sportbars it is one of the better ones on town from what I was told. Decent room for a good price.

Nice Hotel, but...

Posted Jun 5, 2014 on Hotels.com
The hotel was very nice, clean and in a good location, but the room we were originally given was on the third floor with a good bit of walking (my travelling companion is handicapped). I had talked to someone at the hotel a few days before our visit and was told that we would be given a room close to the front door. After we got there and found out what room we had (with queen-sized beds), I had to ask to be put in a better location. We did get that, with a king-sized bed. The bed, itself, was fairly comfortable, but the pillows certainly were not; very soft and squishy. We had often stayed at a hotel down the street, but wanted to "splurge." To me, the experience was not worth the extra $35 a night.

Nice Stay, but a couple of issues

Posted Jun 3, 2014 on Hotels.com
Perfect, except for two things: poor wifi signal and though the breakfast buffet looked great, it was fair at best due to blandness of the low quality food.
