“Historic, but overpriced”

While the location is as perfect as the view, a stay at this historical landmark is overpriced a bit. You know your in for interesting stay when the hotel provides you with earplugs! Which they explained was due to the age of the hotel, which was also why the set-up of the room was crowded, poorly set-up and uncomfortable - you can't turn down the heater and even with the window open it is BAKING! The unyielding temperature made all of us so dry it became problematic. It would have been nice to have some hair conditioner as well. The room was very dusty, we had to put our empty bags on a surface ( roof of small, weird closet)that hasn't been cleaned in about as long as the hotel has been around! One small TV that could only be viewed by one of the beds also seemed a bit lazy - maybe put it against the other wall....?? We love winter sports and get up early but the revving of snowmobiles at 5:30 am every morning really made us almost to tired to enjoy sports. Additionally, all the food & drink were WAY overpriced. I would suggest a day trip to the ski resort with a stay elsewhere!

“Experience a night at the timberline”

Excellent in everything except that the rooms are not sound proof; I could hear my neighbor's bedtime conversation. But then the view of the great silent mountain, the service, and the historic authenticity of the hotel more than make up for this minor disturbance.

“6Snickers”

We really enjoyed our recent stay at the Timberline. The Hotel was a step into the past. My grandson was a little upset there was no TV! He wanted us to go out and by one.( hes only 4) We went down to get hot coco and watch the fire. It was beautiful the night we got there but we never got a full view of mount hood. ( It was a little cloudy)We would Come back for another stay are only complaint was how pricy the food was, and they charged us$7.95 For my grandsons breakfast. The Breakfast buffet was $14.95 After A staff member told us it was $9.95. The hot tub and pool were warmer than the staff thought also, but that was a good thing.A really nice family experience!!!

“Luxurious historic lodge”

This historic building has been beautifully restored but also managed to match the cleanliness, comfort and luxury of a modern hotel. Everything seems to have been thought through with care, from the comfort of the beds to the delicious "nespresso" style coffee maker and flavoured creams.

“A great setting”

What a beautiful lodge and setting. The food was outstanding. The room was okay. We had a great time.

Area recommendations
Spend time in Portland, OR. Do not miss Powell Books, the Japanese Gardens and the Rose Test Gardens in Washington Park. Stroll around the Pearl District. The water front is beautiful. Great restaurants and an easy city to walk. The Columbia Gorge and the Ocean Beaches are all worth seeing. Oregon is worth seeing, every inch of it. You have ocean, stunning rivers, desert, alpine settings. It is our favorite American state.

“Very gracious clerk, very pleasant stay. We'd certainly go back again.”

At check-in we were informed by the clerk that we could upgrade our room at no charge. We had resertved a basic room, but it was on the first floor and the snow had completely obscured the window, so we were happy to accept the offer of an upgrade at no charge. (They weren't busy mid-week) This began an extremely pleasant stay. We were very pleased with the room we upgraded to and the very courteous service. The food in the Dining room was quite good and reasonably priced (for the very remote location). It's a very impressive historic Lodge - very grand and architecturally impressive as a great example of the National Parks style of architecture. It ranks with the Old Faithfull Inn at Yellowstone, but with better food.

Area recommendations
The Lodge is located (as the name implies) at the Timberline. It is a windswept, stormy 11,283 ft. high mountaintop - very remote from any city. The skiing is almost year-round. We got light snow all night in mid May. I recommend it for skiers and hikers.
When to go
We were there in mid May and got a light snowfall. There was a fair amount of skiing still going on, but the weather was cold and windy. You couldn't hike if you wanted to. For hiking, I'd recommend summer. Skiing is almost all year- around. In the spring or fall (the offseason) it's not at all crowded, though. As far as shopping, dining, or nightlife go, the choices are limited to within the lodge itself. It is isolated. There is a village a few miles away down the mountain, but we didn't venture out because it was snowing. The lodge itself was quite cozy and well-appointed for food and drink, ambience and views.

“Very neat and historical, but the rooms are just too small, especially the bath rooms.”

Overall the ski and out door environment are great but the guest rooms are too small to be comfort to use.
