Welcoming Stay

Posted May 28, 2013
Pros: Comfortable; accommodating staff. Good food.
Location: Quiet, outside of town; lovely view of the grounds and lake in the distance.
Bloomfield House, near Mullingar, is a stately hotel in a lovely setting. The rooms are nicely furnished, perhaps a bit outdated, but comfortable; staff very friendly and accommodating. We arrived fairly early, and although our room was ready, the receptionist let us know a room with a garden view would be ready in a short time if we cared to wait. We had a beer in the bar area and in less than an hour were treated to a lovely room with a great view; well worth the wait. We stayed on a Saturday night, staff was attentive and responsive despite the near full house. 'Twas the season for First Communions and weddings and the hotel was crowded. But our room was quiet. We had a view of the lawn and gardens and the Bouncy House Castle that was set up for the pleasure of the younger set. Fun to watch all that kid-energy as they played soccer, bounced, and just had fun running all over and wearing themselves out. Maybe some would be put off by that, but we enjoyed the exuberance. Dinner in the restaurant was outstanding; wonderful Irish beef, winter vegetables and of course, potatoes. Dessert was lovely. Breakfast buffet the following morning was very good with a choice of full or light breakfast. All in all, Bloomfield House is a very comfortable, welcoming place to stay; several steps above your usual overnight hotel and accommodations that focus on the guest.

Good hotel in a lovely location

Pros: It's a lovely location by the lake and it was great having the health spa and pool.
Overall a good experience. Lovely location byLough Ennel and easy to find. Rooms are on the smallish side but comfortable although a little dark as the window in the room was quite small. I would recommend it for a short stay but wouldn't want to spend too many days there due to the size of rooms. My daughter was delighted with the swimming pool which was a real advantage.
