Excellent location Rooms not so good

This hotel is in a great location with a roof terrace which is it's only redeming feature. The first room we were shown was TINY! The second not much better with 2 uncomfortable single beds pushed together against the wall. This meant that the person near the wall had to wake the other to get out of bed. The beds had footboards so shuffling to the end of the bed was impossible. The shelf above the bed was thick with dust and we had to ask for it to be cleaned, They did, but dusted round everything rather than doing a proper job. The bedding, whilst clean, looked grubby and grey. I have travelled in India so I know not to expect Premier Inn standards, but if you are thinking of booking here, pay the extra for a superior room, which are larger and are being renovated.

Excellent location and Great roof top restaurant
Posted Jan 26, 2012 on Hotels.com
My wife and I spent two nights here in transit and we loved it. Right opposite the harbour, airconditioned rooms and a walk from the main shopping spree and the market also. The only thing that annoyed us was our room was directly opposite the lift, and the lift is a musical lift which operates all night and as it is near the reception (both the lift and our room) we could hear the music going all night. Other than that the hotel was fantastic and we would definitely stay there again. The rooms were clean and comfortable. This hotel was on top of another hotel (the two shared the building)... It basically has all that you need in your room. The hotel consists of the reception area and your rooms and the roof top restaurant and the elevator. No other facilities. it is all you need and we loved it

Fantastic rooftop restaurant, average hotel
Posted Jan 14, 2012
Pros: Rooftop restaurant
Cons: The hotel
Location: Great location
The airconditioning barely worked, it was way too hot in our room, and the lift belts out a loud tune everytime it's used so that it wakes up sleeping staff (and all the guests). It was also overpriced but that's Mumbai for you, however it was in a great location. The only redeeming feature is the lovely rooftop restaurant with views of the harbour and the gate. The food is also exceptional and beers are big and cold.

Hotel Harbour View
Posted Jan 4, 2012
Pros: Location is great, roof top bar provides glorious views and enjoyable atmosphere.
Cons: Noise levels high late night and very early mornings!
Location: Close proximity to most of Mumbai's highlights.
Obviously, the main thing about this hotel is it's location-just down from the Taj Mahal Palace- is excellent! My room was at the top next to the bar/kitchen and so was very noisy late evening and early morning. The room had all the amenaties of a 3* room, but western tourists may be a little disappointed with the overall quality. This was a good first stop for my travels in India and met some friendly locals in the roof top restaurant.

The hotel room and servives were very good.I think there were bed bugs in my bed although others did not experience any discomfort. The staff is friendly and helpful. The food and the room service is pretty good. The view from the tiny balcony is refershing. All the popular places to eat, drink and shop are nearby. The sofa-bed was very comfortable. I highly recommed this hotel if you are traveling to Mumbai for sightseeing or enjoy its delights!

Perfect view... bad accommodations.

When I was looking for a hotel near to Gateway of India, I found this one. Good price, excellent location. But when we get there... Oh, God! The hotel is very old! The room I stayed is too small. The staff is not attentive and will try to get some extra money from you as always as they can with some extra charge, one "special taxi", a plug adapter that would cost half price... I can also mention how that bed was unconfortable - they use to join two single beds to have one "double bed". If you interested to watch tv... maybe you can find problems with it, too. The elevator doens't stop playing a terrible song day and night - you are sleeping and you will be awakened several times by that kind "lambada" song when someone enter it (and there is always someone entering it - believe me). After all, I couldn't describe it is a hotel in fact, but several small hotels into one.The only advantage I saw on it... it's the perfect view to the sea (if you book a room with this view) - It's the only thing that make me have good memories of this hotel. Mumbai is also fantastic. Find another hotel! That's my advice.

You could not ask for a better location in Mumbai. Down the street from the famed Taj Hotel and The gateway of India, where the boats leave for the Elephanta caves, a must-see for visitors to Mumbai. Picturesque rooftop restaraunt with a gorgeous Ocean view, reasonable a la carte breakfast included and some delicious options for purchase at dinner, but get their early it gets crowded at night. You are also just setps away from all the action and shopping in Colaba (downtown Mumbai). The rooms are modest and some quite small, but clean, comfortable and with sattelite tv including american shows, a fridge, coffee maker and decent washroom and shower. However, if you need to buy bottled water, get it at a store for 40RS, they charge double that at the restaraunt although the price for food is very reasonable. Don't miss a visit to Leopold's Cafe for a meal either, great food, atmosphere and location!

Tired but great location
Posted Jan 17, 2012
This hotel occupies the top floors of the building so don't be confused when you pull up and it says (Strand Hotel). Apparently they are wrapped up in a lawsuit over this. The hotel is very well situated and the rooftop is great. The rooms are ok, the beds are a little tired.
