A pleasant surprise
Posted Jan 14, 2012 on Hotels.com
I was originally booked at the Oberoi but last minute had to change to the Intercontinental (unwillingly). I was totally shocked and surprised after reading some of the negative reviews. This place was a fantastic hotel. I have rarely seen service carried out at this level. I wasn't in the best room category at the hotel but had a butler even. I was escorted to my room where i was checked in privately. All functions of the room were shown. It is high tech. The 2nd day the hostess greeted me by last name in the restaurant. I have people who've known me for years who can't pronounce my name. Phones were answered immediately and always answered with a greeting using my name. My only complaint would be that the Internet connectivity was problematic at times though both nights I had issues, 2 techs arrived and resovled the problem in minutes. My complaint is the cost. It was nearly $30 a day. That's outrageous for any hotel!! But it was a necessity due to work. I would have no problems returning to that hotel for work or for pleasure. The location is absolutely spectacular!!

Nice hotel but there are better in Mumbai

For me a decent hotel and a great location for cricket at the Wankhede. A bit pricey but for a 5star hotel it was a pretty average experience. Can't recommend the Corleone restaurant which had poor service, long delays, hair in the food and staff who had no interest. The Kebab Corner restaurant was completely different and the food was excellent with surperb service.

Best boutique hotel in India
Posted Jan 13, 2011
We stayed at the Intercontinental for 3 nights in Feb after touring the north of india. In summary, friendly, stylish, relaxed v.good value for money! I have stayed at many 5 star hotels but this service was by far the best I have ever experienced. All members of staff were sincerely friendly and attentive without being pompus. Nothing was too much trouble and we genuinely felt that we were being looked after. I have to mention the houskeeping and turn down service, lots of nice little touches made a big difference, top notch stuff! Regarding the Hotel and rooms, both are kept to a high standard of maintenance and cleanliness. Decoration is contempory and stylish but very relaxed. Our room was very big (7 floor room 771) with a hugh kingsize bed and bathroom to die for. For the size of the hotel facilities were excellent. we ate at kebab corner, leg of lamb was incredible but othe rdishes were very ordinary). We also ordered breakfast in our room twice as it was very good. The Dome bar is a gem, very stylish but chilled atmosphere with views up and down marine drive. The gym was small but adequate for all but the hardcore gym enthusiasts. The In room spa was also very good with a complementary massage being yet another nice touch. Downsides, it is located about 1hr 20mins from the airport and about an hour from the main nighlife (andhere). However it is slap bang in the middle of the main tourist attractions and close to the business centre. I would stay there again

An Outstanding Experience

Our stay at the InterContinental was an amazingly positive experience. The care we received from everyone was so supportive and above and beyond the call of duty. There were several examples that will always make me think fondly of the hotel. Definitely the strongest of these memories was as we were leaving the hotel. A friend had arranged a driver to pick us up. The driver obviously was unsure of where we were being taken and one of the Hotel employees stayed with us and made sure everything was worked through before he left us. The Hotel facilities were outstanding. The restaurants, especially the Dome were memorable. Our room had so many fine little touches that made the experience very special. The view was amazing, and location on Marine Drive perfect. We were in walking distance to the India Gate, Cafe Leopold, and Taj Mahal Hotel. It felt a very safe neighborhood to walk around. I feel there was the warmth and individual touch much needed after a 24 hour flight and so far away from home. Thank you for displaying such powerful integrity and for making me feel so safe in India

InterContinental Marine Drive Mumbai
Posted Jan 14, 2010 on Hotels.com
On balance I had a negative experience with this hotel. Firstly this hotel is relatively expensive, charging over Euro 200 per standard 'deluxe' room per night, not including breakfast. At this kind of price one would expect, for example, internet access to be included - not so, I was charged an additional Euro 20 for each 24 hours. The second issue I had with this hotel is that I was travelling on business and had a number of appointments in various parts of Mumbai. In an effort to ensure timely arrival at each meeting I hired a hotel car with driver for the day. In advance, the hotel was given the addresses and contact numbers. Despite this preparation I was late, by one hour hour on each occasion, to two of the meetings. This was no fault of the traffic, but rather the lack of knowledge of the driver and failure to follow directions when phoning for further information. At the end of the day the concierge was extremely apologetic, however this was an embarassing situation for me and my business, and has therefore put me off this hotel.

Superb Hotel, Top Quality, Great Location Right on the Arabian Sea
Posted Jan 17, 2009 on Hotels.com
After two weeks of tromping around India, the Intercontinental on Marine Drive in Mumbai proved the right way to end our trip. The rooms are spectacular, with all the fine touches are what you'd expect at an Intercontinental -- 42" flatscreen TV, Bose radio, marble bathrooms, comfy mattress. The service was classy without seeming pushy. The seafront views look out onto the Arabian Sea, and the great location lets you walk out onto Marine Drive where crowds gather every night to watch the sunset. Only complaint: the restaurants inside the Intercontinental are quite pricy (although good), so recommend walking a block to the left of the Intercontinental to VN Road, where there are other good restaurant options.
