“Definitely Recommended”

Was very clean and all the employees were very nice. The wireless internet only works on the first floor but they didn't tell us that when we bought an hour of wireless internet (1 Euro). You can also use the computers in the lobby for a little more money. which was convenient. The phones and internet were not working in the hotel for a few days which was inconvenient. There was a tram stop right across the street from the hotel and by taking the tram and subway it was only about 15 minutes away from the city center. We also walked a few times but we were there in the winter so it got cold (took about 30-40 minutes to walk). If it was summer the walk would have been a lot better. Everything else was good and overall definitely a good place to stay at a cheap price.

Area recommendations
I would recomment the city center- Marienplatz (and Karlsplatz). There are a lot of shopping and restaurants there. I would also recommend making the trip to Neuschwanstein Castle and Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial. There are a few tour companies in the area (we used New Munich Tours and they were great). I would definitely recommend going on tours compared to going to farther places on your own. They give you so much information and it is way more itneresting then going on your own. I would also recommend going to Olympia park for a Munich hockey game!
When to go
A lot cheaper in the winter but would go in the spring next time so I can enjoy the outdoor biergardens (they were obviously not open since it was cold).
Getting around
We were going to rent a car but decided against it because you can basically get anywhere with the tram/bus/subway. It isn't too hard to figure out and there are maps everywhere.
Must see
Neuscwanstein Castle, Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial (very humbling and interesting)
Dining
Be careful, you will get charged about one Euro for every pretzel you eat at restaurants (they leave a basket of them on the table), Would recommend the Schneiderweiss bierhall/restarant and the Augustiner (they have a few locations). Hofbrauhaus is OK...just really "touristy".
Events and shows
I went to a Munich hockey game in Olympia Park and it was great! The fans were chanting the whole time and each team has their own drummer to help them chant!

“Too loud, confuse staff, english is not very welcomed...”

Yeah... I've been there on Sept'09 and I woke up many times during the night w/ horns, student groups screaming, etc... I really don't care about luxury and stuff, but a good service is a mininum for a stranger out of his/her country feel like at home! And you won't have a good service if you don't speak German fluently. Finally, I've checked out 4 days earlier than the checkout date on my reservation but they told to Expedia that I didn't... So, I'm going to pay extra days because a big LOOSER is written on my face!!

“It's a Youth Hostel”

Clean, reasonably close to center of town. Busy with backpacker/youth crowd, but reasonably well behaved people. Nothing fancy, but inexpensive, and location is fair. 50 yards to the S-bahn stop which was very convenient.

“A Backpackers Hideaway”

This hotel was a pleasure to stay in. Although not a 5 star hotel it provided a safe stay with comfortable beds. We arrived and were greeted by kind staff that helped us in English and given a private room. Something notable to say is that this hotel really isn't really made for the family, it's target audience is as a cheap place for students and youth to crash during the night while spending most of the time exploring the city during the day. During the day, it's quite normal to hear the chatter of groups hanging out and relaxing on the balcony from your room. With many international traveler's this is great to meet new people but for those expecting a quiet getaway to stay in their hotel rooms all day, this may be a problem. Night however was quiet. The double room we slept in was clean and minimalistic. Room service made our beds and tidied up. Bathroom was big enough for our needs. Nice little nook for doing a bit of work of hanging out on the laptop. As for internet access, there is no access in the rooms. For internet you need to go to hang out in the lobby and I believe there is a small fee. The hotel/hostel is fairly close to the main train station (Hauptbahnhof) in that it's a 30 minute pleasurable walk. One can opt for the S-Bahn which takes about 5 minutes from the main station and comes quite frequently every 10-20 minutes.

Traveler's tip
One must see is the Kultfabrik area of town, just a 100m or so from the East Train Station (Ostbahnhof), providing over 20 different forms of entertainment from pubs to clubs. There's something for every adult here, like an every night Mardi Gras.

“Decent and useful enough for the price”

The room I've got was pretty spacious for a two single bed room you usually imagine from any hotel/hostels, probably because all rooms in the building were identically built. There were only two small bedside tables and chairs(not sofas:[ )and a small cloak, and a hanged TV other than beds. No microwave, no coffee maker, fyi. Hot water worke perfectly fine both for the sink and the tub/shower, and so did the heating system in the room&bathroom. My visit was in the middle of March, but in the room, I could live with no socks+short sleeve shirts. Only thing I wasn't so happy with was the noise from other rooms. Its not that the walls were too thin; it was the connected balcony halls and opened balcony doors/windows that echoes noise from rooms from a far. I happened to notice this because, during my 1-week stay, there were two middleschool field trip? groups in the same hostel. Even though they mostly stayed in the lower floor, 6-bed rooms, it sounded like they were staying right next door. I suppose A&O Hackerbruecke is a usual destination for school trips. Other than that, its quite useful. (i.e. right by a tram station and close to Subway sandwich.)
