“Munich airport Novotel”

The main issue with this hotel is the location. It is close to the airport but not close enough to walk, and there is no shuttle bus. There is however a public bus which can be used. It is inconvenient to go to the airport for dinner etc. The surroundings are dismal, it is surrounded by huge airport parking lots. The parking rates are very high and they even charge you parking fees while checking in. The room itself was fine. The toilet is in a separate room from the washroom which is unusual for a hotel. The lights in the room only turn on if the key card is inserted in a holder in the room which is confusing if you have never been in such a room and it is dark.

“"Charm-less"”

On the plus side,the hotel was clean and convenient for an early morning flight out of MUC. I'll echo the comment of many that a hotel billing itself as an airport hotel should provide its own shuttle service, but using the public bus isn't a big deal. The hotel from the outside is about as unattractive as they come...no grounds or landscaping...looks like a cold, modern office building. Inside isn't much better. The rooms are basic and try too hard to be ultra-modern instead of just comfortable and efficient. The restaurant is also univiting and the food was only okay and very over-priced. Wi-fi access is expensive, but there are 2 Macs in the lobby area that guests can use free for 20 minute sessions. I'd go back if I were flying out of MUC again, but it's definitely not a place to stay if you're there to see Munich.

“Well designed”

As mentioned by others, the connection by bus (3 times per hour for a 6 minutes drive), is a drawback on this otherwise outstanding hotel that does not feel like an anonymous airport hotel. Nice free breakfast in the early morning hours.

“Very nice hotel”

Hotel was very clean and quiet, good bed, and free bus service to the Munich airport. We paid for buffet breakfast with our reservation.......it was fabulous......something to please everyone whether you are European or American.

Area recommendations

We don't speak German, but we understood that most Germans do.........unfortunately, that was not our experience in downtown Munich. We found the Glockenspiel on our own, but no one could/would direct us to the famous Biergarten. We really wanted to see it, and were disappointed we were not able to. Hotel area and the airport is all commercial, and the people there were very helpful and spoke many languages since this is a huge air hub.

Getting around

Subway S1 (rear car only) goes to the airport . Subway S8 goes downtown..........don't know about the other subway lines.

Other

Our experience with the Thrifty/Dollar vehicle rental was not good..........the van they assigned us should have more appropriately been from "Rent a Wreck". The Hotel Novotel at the Munich Airport, however, was really great.
