weekend on the shore

Posted Aug 18, 2014
Cons: not enough stations on the tv which was small
Inexpensive room to sleep each night. Hotel staff was pleasant and the room was clean. Most important it was a short ride to the beach. Had a great weekend thanks

Friendly staff. Cigarette burn holes on bedspreads. Holes on sheets. Stained, burned, filthy carpet. Fridge with stains and bad smells. Stains under sink. Free breakfast--cold cereal, waffles and coffee. Will not go back would not recomend.

This is barely a 2 star hotel.. at best

This hotel was not clean and not a place where I will ever spend a night again. If every Super 8 looks like this one, my business will be going elsewhere.

Nice hotel close to Cross Sound Ferry.

Posted Jul 18, 2014
Pros: The woman as the desk was very friendly and took care of me right away. She was very efficient and had all my information immediately.
Cons: May be time to update bathroom fixtures, sink and tub. They are all fine, but they look well worn.
Location: This is located near the Cross Sound Ferry, so if you were taking a very early crossing (as I was) it is worth the stay at the Super 8 Motel.
Check in was very easy. Woman at the desk pulled up my reservation right away and I was in my room in less than five minutes. This is not a brand new motel, so don't expect everything to be new. It is old and shows signs of age, but it was clean and, best of all, quiet! The continental breakfast was what you would expect. You can make your own waffle, or have the cereal, muffins, or danish or all of the above. The coffee was good as well as the fresh orange juice. There is a refrigerator in the room as well as a three cup coffee maker. Another great plus was that there is a Stop and Shop located right across the street. Also nearby are Taco Bell and a Chinese Restaurant within the same parking area.

Average Stay

Posted Jul 17, 2014
Pros: The staff was very helpful.
Cons: Plumbing was slow and toilet filled to almost overflowing. Made us nervous. Told staff to have it checked for the future.
Location: We went to Mystic Pizza, Fort Trumball in New London, Old Mystic, The Steam Train and Boat ride in Essex. We had a great time.
The Motel 8 was a great value. We ate breakfast in all 3 mornings which was another savings. Our light bulb in the bathroom started blinking off and on. They didn't have a maintenance man to replace it until the following morning at which time we were checking out. They offered to transfer rooms is we wanted which was nice of them. We chose to not move since we were already situated. Over all stay was good. Professional Staff, good value for the money.

Poorly maintained hotel

Posted Jul 15, 2014
When advertised online, it said to ask for a roll away bed however, at check in we were told they do not offer it. We had 5 people staying In a room with only 2 beds, making it an uncomfortable sleeping arrangement. We were in a nonsmoking room but both comforters and blankets had burn holes in them as well as burn marks on the carpet in our room. Pillow cases had a gray tint to them leaving us with a feeling of uncleaniness as well as the toilet wasn't even flushed. There were 4 towels in the room, for 5 people and when we asked for more we were told they didn't have housekeeping there and therefore did not have towels. The elevator had a foul odor.

It was the worst hotel I have ever stepped foot into. Went to room, found cigarette burns in the sheets, got the hell out of there and stayed at another hotel down the street.

Ho hum

Posted Jun 30, 2014
Pros: Bed was large and comfortable
Cons: Attention to details, clean up the stains on the floors
Location: Casino about 8 miles
Nothing special at all- room was OK, building was in disrepair in areas, elevator had graffiti carved into the metal. Not even glass glasses in bathroom. Free breakfast was a joke...

Even for $80 these days I expect more

Posted Jun 16, 2014
Pros: Decent coffee Saturday AM (but all out Sunday)
Cons: The smell, the mattress, the appliances, the towell's laundering, the vacuuming, general cleaning, security (there was none), price for the room
Location: Just go to the beach and clear out your nose. Go to the sub-base. Go visit family in Mystic.
Even for $80 nowadays I expect more from a hotel. I thought being a chain would be an improvement; I have stayed in nicer Motel 6's. At least they didn't smell badly. We had a time with the manager arriving late, I guess they do not feel responsible when I pay through expedia or something. We had to get him twice because the key would not work. The first time was fine but the second time he growled some not very nice comment in front of my wife. (He had to reset the key's room number on the key both times before it worked for him.) As I mentined, we arrived very late, the room smelled badly of cigs. We were too tired to care. It was 88 degrees in the room. The towells were as stiff as cardboard (typical low priced hotel) There was no clock, the fridge did not wqork; it was either off or everything froze. My brother checked in the next night, had a big hassle over the reservation (it was not there) but I not only made the reservation myself and had the confirm number I also paid for it! Hotels do not treat guests the same under expedia or any other pay-ahead agency when they get a lower price.
