Nagahama is located 40 miles (64 kilometers) west of Nagoya and about 190 miles (306 kilometers) west of Tokyo, Japan's capital.
When it comes to getting the best bang for your buck from your holidays, remember that Nagahama is just just the start; Shiga features an abundance of wonderful places to visit. Hikone, lies approximately 7 miles (11 kilometers) to the north. Here you can enjoy the Hikone Castle and Genkyu-en Garden.
While you are on holiday in Nagahama, enjoy Nagoya. Approximately 40 miles (64 kilometers) away, this regional city is home to Higashiyama Park, Chukyo Racecourse and Nagoya University. Nagoya has much of interest for those keen to hang around here a little longer. Nagoya Congress Center, Aichi Arts Center and Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Garden are just a sample of the other interesting points of interest worth a visit.
Learning some of the language is the simplest way to get to know another culture so be sure to practice some everyday Japanese phrases before your trip. "Isshoni odorimasenka?" ("Would you like to dance with me?") is a good one to know. Or try "Benjo wa doko desu ka?" (Where's the toilet?).
As your time here draws to an end, spend your last yen on last-minute mementos and say Sayōnara to the locals you've met and the special places you have seen.
