Lodge and Bar Side HillPosted Feb 21, 2013
Pros: The staff
Cons: The room
Location: Close to some great shops and places to eat.
The staff are lovely and speak very good English. They are helpful with arranging transport to and from the slopes. The room was old and tired. It had a good heater. Overall, very expensive for the type of accommodation.

Fantastic stay in HakubaPosted Feb 28, 2012 on Hotels.com
Had a wonderful stay at this beautiful lodge in Hakuba. Kiko and his family made us feel very welcome and made our stay very comfortable. The lodge is walking distance to the main street in Echo Land and buses regulalry leave from the main street to the slopes. Will definitely stay here again next time we come to Hakuba!

Warm, Comfortable, Affordable and Convenient!Posted Feb 9, 2012 on Hotels.com
One of the best lodges we have stayed in so far on our Japan Trip. 5 minute walk to Echo-land main road. restaurants, busses, convenient stores all in walking distance. The Lodge owner was very friendly, welcoming and made a great conversationalist. English is very well spoken and he is very accomodating. Just wanted to thank Kikou for the best stay in Hakuba that was definitely worth it.

I stayed in Side Hill in January 2012 and would have to say it was a very comfortable stay. The manager was always very attentive and the food he cooked was amazing meaning that we rarely wanted to go out after the long day in the snow. The place if very comfortable and well located within the village at Hakuba.

Hakaba Ski lodge a mix of Japan and the WestPosted Jan 8, 2012
Pros: Japanese style bathhouse bathroom with spa
Cons: Austerity of the bedrooms
Location: Hakaba location is a ski resort in winter close to an Olympic ski site - very beautiful and not too busy.
This is a family run lodge with some great facilities and friendly staff. The room was just two beds, a heater and a phone and an old couch, but ok if you are skiing all day, which I was not. The shared sitting room was very comfortable with a great log fire, a big tv and music centre. A small dining parlour adjoined the room. Free tea and coffee were available in the lounge dining area. The owner was knowledgeable and helpful about the area and spoke reasonable english. Most people staying at the lodge while we were there were Japanese, and overall the lodge was fairly quiet. The two bathrooms were Japanese style on the first floor (with spa bath facilities in the 2 bathrooms) and the bedrooms and shared toilets with a separate basin area for cleaning teeth and washing hands and doing hair was on the second floor.
