Overpriced for amenities

Posted Mar 25, 2015
Pros: Staff were pleasant and helpful.
Cons: Price was too high for such accommodations in an area with no attractions.
Location: Central business district. There are no conveniences in this area and everything must be accessed by taxi.
I was on a business trip and had a standard queen room, no smoking. The iron was old and scorched my cotton shirts. The ironing board was broken and wouldn't stay up. During my stay the maids broke the towel rack, and just left it broken on the bathroom sink. There was no price list for the minibar.

Generally Nice Hotel

Cons: It is an old hotel.
The hotel is located in the heart of the city and is easily accessible. The staff are pleasant and the food delicious.

character, character and location

Posted Jan 17, 2015
Pros: Atmosphere! Dial clocks with world time at the reception desk! It reminds me of the (now demolished?) Kyyv Hotel in Bratislava.
Cons: A mixer in the shower instead of Hot and Cols separate knobs
Location: It's safe to walk day or night, Trattoria down the block is a good Italian, many bars and shopping
No taxi can miss it and you won't have to give your driver indications how to get there! The Hilton stands out in Central Nairobi as a relic of the 70's, almost a museum piece with all the original furniture. It is well maintained with excellent 70's service but with the distinct flavor of the Cold war era and one expects Roger Moore in a safari suit sitting at the 'Travelers' Restaurant in gallant company. Internet is $20/day, OTOH the Hotel rate is reasonable if you don't buy the proposed upgrades upon arrival (receptionists just politely do their job and you are not in the obligation to buy up) If you are not the big breakfast type you can use their cafe. The Restaurant is OK and there is a bar, not very lively but there are many bars accross the street and down the block. Security is excellent inside the Hotel and in Central Nairobi, now that you have metal detectors and guards in front of every building and every business, annoying if you just want to grab some chicken wings or sip a latte. Bedding is good, excellent noise isolation from the street but not from the hallway. The bathroom could be remodeled but please keep all the rest, the bedside AM-FM radio with all the knobs!

Posted Jan 10, 2015
Pros:
Cons:

Hilton rooms in need of a major refurbishment. Staff are fine, but the condition of the rooms is doing serious damage to the Hilton brand.

A hotel well past its glory days

Posted Dec 27, 2014
Location: Nairobi national park, Giraffe centre, Convention centre, museum etc.. Can ignore if you are planning for game dives in the main parks
+ve --> right in the CBD. Guest rooms are just ok if you get in discount sale and only one person travelling. Security check. Gym/Swimming pool -ve --> right in the CBD. Lot of time wasted for getting & out for terrible jam around. No free internet in the room. Initially booked a guest room for 2 nights (queen bed) for me and my wife. But the room was very small. Had to upgrade for executive room (which was ok) by paying extra 180 dollar
