Truly helpful

Pros: The staff were truly wonderful.
Cons: The only significant grizzle would be that the bed was just a tad hard.
Location: Attractions are within walking distance if or inexpensively accessible by taxi. Shopping is close by with spectacular lighting at night
We certainly felt out of our comfort zone on our first trip to China, especially not being in a tour group. The concierge was a tremendous help, especially as we had soooo many questions. They made our stay in Shanghai enjoyable. I'd recommend other free independent travelers to use the hop on hop off bus before setting out. Taxis are inexpensive but beware it's impossible to hale one at peak hour. They wil all be booked and won't bother with you. We could ourselves in that position and were helped by another hotel who booked a taxi for us. The hotel was Greta, quiet, reasonably close to attractions and good shopping. The only concern we had was every restaurant was busy with wedding ceremonies or wedding breakfast sand we didn't like the idea of heading out for dinner on our first night. The room service was great as the prices were the same as if we ate in the restaurant.

The tale of two cities

Posted May 22, 2013
I have stayed at the Jingling a total of three times. Each stay was about two nights each. There are two types of experiences you can have at the Jingling and I have had both. There is the one experience where you pay 200 bucks a night by making reservation over the phone and paying through the nose. There is the other experience where you book a cheaper room on Expedia and get a much cheaper experience. I am a Jingling Elite Member, so I am aware of the chain. I have stayed at the Jinling X'ian, Yangzhou, Nanjing and Zhangjigang. This is my least favorite of the hotels. The problem is, there is such a difference between the two experiences you can have. The one room is great. Modern, clean, still kind of small but, packed with amenities. The other for just 30 percent less, gets you an incredibly old and dated room. Still has a flat screen and the bathroom seemed modern but, the room is just brown, drab and lived in. Needs a serious update. Since I have been there last, the whole hotel went wireless. Unfortunately, the wireless went out the first night of my two night stay. So, I only had access to internet in the lobby. When you ask what is going on, the send a tech up wearing a blue jump suit who stands in your room and tells you, "the internet is out" That went well. Thanks for that. The concierge did not have much to offer in terms of suggestions. He sent us to a pretty average restaurant just a block away from the hotel.

Very good value and location

Posted Apr 11, 2013
This is a very good hotel, location is perfect in the very middle of Nanjing next to the metro and the Deji Shopping Plaza (which has several good restaurants). We stayed 3 nights in early April 2013. The price through Expedia was cheaper than booking an extra night directly with the hotel. The breakfast is very good with an enormous selection. The staff were pleasant and helpful. We were upgraded to a deluxe room which was modern, blonde-wood (the hotel was built in the 1980s but the rooms must have been upgraded within the last 5 years I'd say) with several nice 'extra' touches. The only criticisms are that the laundry prices were astronomical (we didn't use on this basis) and they don't have proper coffee at breakfast. They'll do a passable espresso but this will cost you nearly $9AUD extra...
