“Sweet but a little musty”

We should have said something at check-in but we didn't so I should complain too vociferously because the service at the hotel was very good and it had a lovely laid-back atmosphere that I enjoy. But there were two things that were disappointing. First, our room smelled of damp. The carpet was definitely damp - perhaps because the hotel is older and in a humid part of the country but also perhaps because the rooms don't get daily use. The second small inconvenience was that if your room is in the main building you have to trek through the lobby and the restaurant to go to the pool. It's either that or go out the front door and round the building. I'm not keen on 'strutting my stuff' through public areas so that I can go swmming...

Area recommendations
Everglades City - it was wonderfully laid-back and utterly without box stores. Just what we needed.

“A Strange experience”

I would recommend this place because it is deep into Everglades country about 15 miles away from Everglades City. And there are some great boating and hiking excursions that are run out of the hotel. So, if you love the Everglades, you are in the middle of this sub-tropical environment. Just be mindful of the deficiencies of the place...don't expect too much...and you will be fine. The rooms are clean and have small patios looking out. Really, the people working there are friendly enough, though not very helpful. Even though they bill themselves as a "resort", don't expect anything with style or positive energy, Once the bar and restaurant opens (Monday-Saturday), the food is OK and the bartendress is very nice. Rates are quite reasonable and you are in the midst of an extraordinary physical landscape. February and early March are tremendous in the Everglades, but if you go there in the Summer, be prepared to be eaten alive by the mosquitoes.

Area recommendations
Philadelphia? I'd say Northern Liberties or Society Hill. If you mean the Everglades, I'd recommend the Shark Valley Everglades National Park, Hike or bike within this amazing place. Take the Tram. I'd also use the various hiking/boating excursions offered by the Port of the Islands Resort and Casino. Plus, Naples is a fine city and Fort Myers in late February/early March is Spring Training headquarters for the Red Sox and Twins,
When to go
From November to late March. Otherwide beware of the biting, swarming insects.
Getting there
Auto Train. (Look up AMTRAK Auto Train) is pretty unique. Free wine...a roomette...free dinner (Greatr dinner) and breakfast in the sleeping car. Overnight accomodations and no need for car rental once you get there. It takes you from the Washington D.C. area to near Orlando, so you still have a very long drive from Orlando to ghe Everglades once you get there. Obviously, a Plane into Fort Myers or Miami is quicker, but I do love Trains.
Getting around
Driving. Hiking. Boating.
What to pack
Check the weather, of course...but summer wear usually works for the Everglades in that time period.
Must see
Shark River...Everglades National Park. Also, the city of Naples and a trip to the Keys is not out of the question. Plus, just all over the Everglades...it is one of the most unique areas in the USA or really, in the world.

“Isolated location w/worst breakfast”

This hotel was 25 minutes from any civilization meaning beaches and restaurants in Naples. Hotel stated full breakfast was included, but instead served danish, frozen fruit, instant oatmeal on styrofoam plates with plastic silverware. No elevator so you carry your luggage upstairs. Nearest single restaurant for lunch (they didn't serve at the hotel) was 20 minutes away.

Area recommendations
I would have liked to have stayed closer to the downtown Naples area by Fifth Avenue.
Outdoors or beach
Worth taking a ride to Marco Island public beaches!

“Will go back with our boating club to boat 1000 islands.”

The airboat ride (complimentary) was our first and we would do it again! We discussed with the front desk our disappointment hot breakfast was advertised on expedia but the breakfast was typical continental. B/c of feedback on expedia, I had also called the desk prior to arrival and they assured me they had a hot breakfast mid week. I am on a special food plan and need protein with each meal, we went to the grocery and bought egg sandwiches to have with their continental breakfast. This worked (refrigerator & micro in the room). The manager on duty asked us to email them for a discount in the future. This does not helo as we passed up other hotels with hot breakfasts to stay here. The hotel is remote from Naples and Marco Island (at least 20 min.) so plan to do more driving. Nice setting for a group gathering. They have cottage/villa rentals on the property.

Area recommendations
Downtown Naples & Marco Island (20 minutes+ away from hotel) trendy experiences & great restaurants.

“A fine taste of old Florida”

Overall we really enjoyed the hotel. We had a slight ant problem but it was taken care of. Being right on the water was great- wonderful views. And, to still be able to get a cooked breakfast was quite the bonus!

Area recommendations
A short drive to Marco Island makes for a nice day trip
Family-friendly activities
Wonderful walking and kayak tours of the Everglades within a short driving distance

“Nice Place”

Nice place--nice complimentary breakfast--only problem is that it is about a 30 minute drive to Naples for restaurants, etc.

“Not ready for prime time”

The room was clean and the bed comfortable. However, there are other issues: The large transom windows over the room door and the balcony door allowed in unacceptable amounts of light. Unless you like seeing sunlight at 5:30, this is not the place for you. The air conditioner blows directly at the bed. Vents cannot be redirected anywhere else. Stiff necks to follow! No room in the bathroom to swing a cat. No place to hang a robe; no place to put toiletries. YOU ARE MILES FROM any restaurant that serves dinner! The hotel restaurant is not open during week nights. Plan on going 15 miles, one way, for a meal. This was NOT the location that I thought I bargained for. Again, the people were nice, the room was clean, the bed was comfortable, but....I would not stay there again.
