Opened in 2013, the Music City Center aims to be one of the most convenient convention centers in the United States. Created by an Atlanta-based firm, TVS design, in partnership with the Nashville-based Tuck Hinton Architects, the center harkens to the classic Nashville look while being thoroughly modern and definitely eco-friendly. Stop by its central location, in an area that was, until the 1950s, nicknamed Black Bottom for its periodic floods, just to appreciate the sheer size of the building. Spreading out over 2.1 million square feet (195,000 square meters), it is no surprise it has quickly become the city’s biggest spot for conventions and celebrations of all sorts.
Though most visitors to the Music City Center come with a goal in mind, take a bit of time to appreciate the building itself. Get a sense of Nashville’s overarching commitment to the world of country music, seen in the center’s two biggest events so far, CMA Fest’s Fan Fair X and the Music City Sports Festival. Pack a pair of comfortable walking shoes if attending an event here, because its 60 conference rooms and up to three exhibition halls mean that a day hitting the floor can feel like a real workout.
In between panels and events, take advantage of the central location to go off site for lunch or dinner. After the excitement of the day is over, blow off some steam in the honky-tonks of Lower Broad, not far away, where the real Nashville is always on display.
Music City Center is located right in the center of downtown Nashville, adjacent to the Bridgestone Arena and the Country Music Hall of Fame. Bus connections are available to a variety of locations in the city from the vicinity. There is on-site parking available, which is generally metered. The surrounding area has limited street parking, but is fairly walkable. The building is open daily from the early morning to the late evening, depending on events taking place.
