Perhaps an experience of times gone by

Pros: Food excellent
Cons: Expense of eating
Location: Very central and convenient
An older property displaying 'faded elegance' and old world charm with a superb if perhaps rather expensive restaurant. Staff could not have been more helpful.

Unique and thoroughly pleasing respite
Posted Jan 9, 2013
Pros: We liked the fact that every room was different and that the original structure dates back to the 1700s. The piano/cigar bar at night was jumping.
Cons: Other than our room the first night, everything was great. We were there to relax, so absense of other attractions in the city was fine.
Location: Nassau itself is kind of boring...not a lot of history or shopping, unless you like going to 50 jewelry stores and tee shirt shops.
We loved this hotel, but it is not for everyone. Those who like "cookie-cutter" international chains will be disappointed by the "down-home" nature of this place. I would strongly suggest asking to see your room before moving luggage to it. We stayed in the outlying cottages, and our first had carpeting that may have pre-dated Elvis. Mold/mildew smell was horrible. The staff switched us to the Pool Cottage, which was just terrific. The staff is very courteous and accommodating. The restaurant is excellent and wine list is over-the-top great but not cheap by any means. Be sure to tour the wine cellar; cigar and chocolate factories also on site and worth a visit. In addition to the hotel restaurant, try Cafe Matisse for fine dining and the Poop Deck for casual.

A hotel from the colonial past
Posted Jan 3, 2013 on Hotels.com
There was a little misunderstanding at the beginning of our stay but it was handled very well by the manager. We have stayed here before & seen the hotel develope from a rundown, almost ruin in the 1970's to a place of great Bahamian character & pleasure. Both the hotel & restaurant celebrate the pleasures of comfortable eating & drinking along with the now rare pleasures of cigar smoking, in a uniquly Bahamian/Colonial style. All this leads to some idiosyncrasies which should be enjoyed & celebrated. The setting is ra large, beautiful, tropical garden with the most colourfully tiled outdoor pool, opposite Government House & a short walk down hill to Bay Street.

Misinformed

Cons: Poor water pessure in face/hand bowl.
Location: Okay
It is advertised as hotel and I was looking for a deluxe room in a hotel. I was given a ? (cottage)? because I had to walk outside the building and through the courtyard to get to Bambo2. The internet states: 1. The Deluxe Rooms: Located in main building of hotel. 2. Graycliff Suite: located in the gardens overlooking the main pool. If I could not climb stairs, then the hotel would not have been of any use to me because there was no elevator or acces ramps. It was not worth the money I paid and if it was possible I would be requesting a refund Expedia. The Graycliid is over rated and should be downgraded to a 3 according to American standards. The British/Hilton ion Nassau looks like a hotel.

Loved Graycliff
Posted Jan 5, 2012
Location: Location cannot be beat. In walking distance of downtown and all the activities
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Staff was wonderful, helping us obtain tickets for an event and even to finding cough drops for me after the stores had closed. The grounds are more extensive than you might imagine from the front entry. Quite an oasis of peacefulness in the midst of downtown Nassau. We had dinner in their restaurant and loved everything.

5 star service

you would think you were in a tropical island in the middle of Nassau with the seclusion and beauty of the property and pool,we got to meet the owners and they were most gracious, the wine cellar alone is worth the trip, not your average sterile ultramodern hotel but brimming with history and character,no qonder it is a 5 star property.

Great Nassau US Embassy Hotel
Posted Jan 27, 2010
We went to Nassau expressly to visit the US Embassy. This hotel is perfectly located for that (easy walking distance) and with more ambience than the Hilton (where we also stayed). The extensive 'courtyard' more than made up for the 'inland' location. its also an easy walk in to the main part of Nassau. The five-star restaurant, though good, charges what you'd expect for such fair but alternatives are a short cab ride away at night or a short walk by day. Though it was probably the only good restaurant we found in Nassau (excluding Paradise Island locations). This did not apply to their charuscaria, however. - It should be noted, we stayed at Greycliff on a special rate. Without that we probably wouldn't have been in their price range. it is a good hotel, if showing its age on the outside, the rooms (two we saw) were spectacular.
