“Very Impressed”

This was my first time at Idle awhile, I have to admit that I was somewhat spectacle because it was not all inclusive and I was traveling alone. Ive stayed at other Large All Inclusive resorts before and wanted something a lilttle more personal. Well Idle Awhile was everything I couldve asked for. Security is always present at the resort. Location was great , its right on the beach, my room was litterally steps away from the beach every morning, I was able to walk to other places on the island to eat local foods and it was very inexpensive. The staff was very friendly , and I met some great people during my stay at the resort. I just loved it. You have access to everything right there on the beach, jet ski, snorkling, glass bottom boat rides, Margaritaville its just a short walk away.. Next Time I come back to Negril this is definetly where I will be staying.

Getting around
very easy, taxi are cheap
What to pack
something for the misquitos...
Nightlife
available up and down the seven mile beach

“Beautiful!”

We started our trip staying on the cliffs at Catcha Falling Star and stayed at club Riu a few night too. We ended our trip at Idle Awhile and it was our favorite. The beach was the most beautiful beach I've ever seen and the hotel was the nicest from the three. Although Catcha had much better service and food, we still preferred the location of Idle awhile and the room. This place also looked much nicer than any of the surrouding hotels we walked by. We had a view of the ocean and a lovely patio surrounded by what looked like a jungle. I've stayed at a lot of nice hotels but this place is my favorite hotel I've stayed in.

“Peace and Quiet”

My new husband and I choose to book a small local hotel vs. an all-inclusive because we did not want to feel obligated to stay on property and eat on property because we paid so much money to do so. Also, we had just had a hectic year of planning a wedding to have a tornado hit during our cocktail hour...that is a whole different story, so we wanted somewhere quiet where we didn't have to wake up early to reserve lawn chairs or make reservations or wait in lines to get info from the concierge. We found just what we were looking for at Idle Awhile, most of the staff were nice. They do move at their own pace but that is a Jamaican thing. The food there is the BEST! Cons: It was so humid & the a/c kept breaking, we were only there 5 nights & would have rather not spent time dealing with it, the housekeeper said there were no other rooms to move to if they couldnt fix it, I was not happy about that, but they fixed it after 3 hrs. The bathroom is open at the top & you can hear everything, & there is only a shower with no guard to keep the water from spraying into the rest of the bathroom, everyday I would soak up the water w/ a towel & the towel would be like orange from the minerals & such in the grout of the bathroom floor. They have security that is supposed to help keep beach vendors to a minimum and curb them approaching you but they dont. You go to relax & then have to fend off the vendors which is NOT relaxing, they are just trying to make money. See next for pros

Area recommendations
We were able to get money into the local economy and not just to a big resort, so we were happy, it is so poor there. Pros: Quiet and beautiful beach, best swimming, snorkeling, and spot in Negril. The curry chicken is amazing. The drinks are very strong. If you are looking for some quiet time and relaxation this place is perfect, the vendors will bother you anywhere. just tell them no thanks and keep walking. We walked everywhere-except the west end, get a taxi-ask the front desk for Mark or his brother anthony or Jennifer...they were all trust worthy. DO NOT go to hungry lion, waste of time and money, very poor service. There is a little whole on the wall called "sip and ....." something maybe sip and eat, good food. There is no fda and the rr are dirty and poor, but the food is great if you can get past the idea of it.
When to go
We went the last party of may beginning of June, it rained every afternoon for a few hours and was never too hot.
Getting there
Fly First Class and do not but anything from the Airport Margarittaville, tooooooo expensive.
Getting around
find a trusted driver and only take taxis with Red plates, they are the legal ones.
What to pack
bathing suit and bug spray.
Must see
mikes glass bottom boat, go snorkeling, 25 bucks a piece, it was amazing.
Shopping
times square is a good place for souvenirs, don't accept the first price, they like to negotiate.
Dining
best in the west jerk chicken and idle awhile curry chicken...must haves

“Great Experience”

going to Negril was definitely a treat! compared to the larger resorts, Idle Awhile has a small entry way which scared my sister. once on property, it is a gem. It is more like a boutique hotel in every sense and is very intimate with a limited number of rooms. they do allow kids so quite a few people had small toddlers. the walls and ventilation leave it so that you can hear nature and children. the restaurant had great food which was reasonably priced-- unlike an experience we had in MoBay. the rooms and bathroom were cleaned to the T! there was also a nice patio to enjoy drinks, food, music, etc. right off our room. Also, I wouldn't recommend getting a rental car; taxis are fine and relatively cheap. you can shuttle in from MoBay or call the hotel to make arrangements.

Dining
last but not least, we ate breakfast at Jenny's in town which had fantastic chicken curry. There was a place right across the street with Jerk chix named ...west??? Anyway, it was the B-E-S-T!

“Had a blast and I will be back!!!”

I LOVED this hotel!!!! Everyone was friendly, even the fellow guests. The rooms were clean, spacious, wonderful, safe, and the AC worked great lol!!! I searched and read a lot of reviews and comparisons on various hotels before choosing Idle Awhile, the price was right and the rooms looked like they did on the web site. The area on the beach was lovely and spent a lot of time on the beach just relaxing. Chill Awhile was a nice added touch. Being on the beach and sipping a drink and reading a book and relaxing is sooo wonderful. Not too many of the locals bothered pushing you to buy there items, but some guests, myself included called out buy some things. Jamaican patties are delicious lol! If your looking the a nice, affordable vacation...look no further. I highly recommend this hotel you will NOT be disappointed. I could say more wonderful things about my stay, but you should expirience it for yourself becuase I had an awesome time and will be going back in the near future!!! :D

“Overall, not bad”

The hotel room was clean and large with sufficient amenities. The service was average. The front desk personnel were good, but the bar/restaurant staff were a little lax. The garden areas REALLY needed some flowering plants. There was a lot of garden space that could be spruced up to make the exterior grounds beautiful. The location on 7 mile beach was good and there were nice lounge chairs and security. The swimming was great. Don't eat here. the food was only average for what you paid. Go somewhere else. Overall, not bad for what we paid in the off season.

Area recommendations
We liked the cliff hotel/area better than the beach hotel/area. You can always go down and spend the day on the beach.
Dining
Would recommend Cosmos, Kuyaba and The Palms for restaurants down on the beach. We liked Pushcart at the Rockhouse up on the cliffs.

“Couldn't have been better.”

This small, garden-lush hotel was perfectly located, wonderfully staffed, and extremely comfortable. I cannot imagine a better choice for someone seeking a quiet retreat while still within easy distance of rowdier party spots.

“Jamaica's best kept secret”

Idle A While is by far one of Jamaica's best kept secrets. I was made to feel at home from the moment I arrived to the the moment I left. All the staff go above and beyond to provide excellent service and make sure you have the best possible vacation. 24 hour security provided a safe environment, the waiting staff always had a smile and a drink ready after a long swim, and the room was always kept clean by the housekeeping staff. The garden room was spacious and very comfortable. I will be back to Idle and Chill A While in the very near future.

Traveler's tip
Chill A While has excellent food. I highly recommend the banana pancakes or fruit plate for breakfast, the jerk chicken for lunch, and the Shrimp Rundown or Curry chicken for Dinner. Also, try the jerk chicken stand across the street for some local cuisine. Just ask the staff, they'll tell you where to eat.

“Love it every time!”

We've stayed here a few times. It is consistently top notch. The restaurant is casual with great food. Beach is perfect. Say hi to Needle at the bar if you go, he'll take good care of you.

“Will Idle again!”

Extremely friendly staff, great location on beach, barefoot for breakfast, lots of breeze thru wood louvers, have AC but not needed. Lots of palms and garden shade. Must like a firm mattress.

Traveler's tip
Less than 5 minute beach walk to Margueritaville. Go to Xtabi for lunch and to explore the caves for free (rent snorkel gear at bar). It's on the way to Rick's Cafe.
