The staff made the tripPosted Jun 23, 2014
The staff made our trip the best. We have been to Mexico and to Punta Cana but this place by far is the best. Give them a couple dollars and get treated like royalty. We are already getting ready to book our next trip. Can't go wrong with riu.

My husband and I stayed for 4 days and loved every minute! Everyone is so friendly. The liquor flows! The overnight bartender, O'neil, was our favorite. The food is great! The entertainment is wonderful. The beach and pool are beautiful. The resort is very clean. We will return as soon as we can!

Nice hotel, beautiful ocean viewsPosted Jun 20, 2014
The hotel staff was great. The room was nice. However, I didn't like the beds. The king bed are 2 hard twin/full beds put together. Not romantic. Love the beach, The entertainment. Food was fresh but bland. Drinks were plenty. Very nice and relaxing. Everything at your fingertips. Yes, I would go back

Pros: The hotel was very clean and very well kept. The staff was friendly and polite. Having the bed turned down in the evening was a nice touch.
Cons: Just like anything, overtime you need to replace and or repair something's.. The Hotel needs some R & R (Replace and Repair )
Location: For ten dollars a person you can take a cab to Time Square Mall for shopping. The drive will drop you off and come back for you in about 2 hours.
We had a fantastic time. The food at the buffet was awesome and there were plenty of choices. Marvin and Al do a wonderful job of making you feel welcome. There were plenty of excursions to choose from. The sunset sail was very nice. Snorkeling, Rick’s Café’ and the sunset in Jamaica for only $50.00 is a must. We booked the sunset sail with Mr. Happy on the beach and were told we would be on a catamaran. We found out later you could also book this excursion with the tour representative in resort. The zip line excursion was worth every penny. If you are scared of heights like me, no worries Marvin and Derron are very professional and understanding. The entertainment was good. If you like Reggae music you are at the right resort. Plenty of interaction with guests. We loved the steel drums band. These young people have a lot of energy and talent. Wish I could see them here in the US.

Great food, especially at Krystal restaurant. The Japanese was also very good. Breakfast and lunch buffet definitely above average for an all inclusive. I liked the small feel of the resort, and all of the staff were great. The beach is beautiful and kept so clean, as well as the rest of the property. The only negatives - the nightly shows start at 10:00pm, which is a little late when you start your day at 9am on the beach. Also, there are no king size beds, only two fulls pushed together. They are also very hard. Overall, the place is great-great staff, very clean, and above-average to excellent food. This is my second trip and probably not my last.

Can't wait to return.Posted May 26, 2014
Pros: Beach, staff, jerk chicken at lunch, view from room 3311.
Cons: Needs more public restrooms & music played inside restaurants at dinner. The French restaurant was terrible.
Location: Rick's Cafe is a must, skip Jimmy Buffet Margaritaville it'd a rip off.
Just returned from Riu Palace and can’t wait to go back. My husband and I have spent 10 years traveling to AIs in the Caribbean, we have been to Bahamas, Antigua, DR, Cancun – for us there is no place better than Jamaica, specifically Negril. This was our first stay in Bloody Bay, we were a little worried it wasn’t going to compare to 7 miles beach down the road but we were very pleasantly surprised. Riu Palace beach is absolutely one of the best I have ever been to. Pristine. Beautiful water, power fine sand that is raked every morning, plenty of beach chairs and shade. And they have wait staff that come down to the beach to take/fill drink orders – Sandals didn’t even do that for us. The second best part of this resort is the staff, they were very kind, friendly and courteous. From check in, to bell hop, all of the food service people, even the maid greeted us with a smile and “Good morning” every single day. We did our fair share of tipping, but I really do not believe that got us any better service than other guests. I have found that if you are kind and courteous to the Jamaican people, they will treat you the same. Look them in the eye, say “hello, please, thank you”, even a quick fist bump “Respect” and by day two they will all know your name, what you are drinking and be more than happy to go out of their way for you. Even though they are very poor, they have a lot of pride.

Good place to relax in NegrilPosted May 23, 2014
Pros: It doesn't cater to kids and families, but also not a couples-only place. Nice relaxing atmosphere with something for everyone. Good security.
Cons: Service to solo travelers could be much better. If I came back I'd be sure to bring a partner next time.
Location: The bay is beautiful and good for watersports. Plenty of excursions available, or you can just veg on the beach if you like.
Not sure they like the Expedia discount customers. They tried to give me a ground floor room with a walled patio, little view, right by a restaurant and a main walkway and it would have been a nightmare; I asked for a 2nd or 3rd floor room instead and got it. Be sure to bring earplugs in case you are in a building close to the center, it's very loud at night until around midnight. Suites are really nice with beautiful granite bathrooms, comfortable, and a great value. Good fast wi-fi service. Beach is beautiful, and I walked all around the bay each morning. Rainstorms in the afternoon are common, so most people head to the beach in the morning to get enough hours in. The jerk chicken for lunch at the place on the beach is to die for, don't miss it! Food is excellent, and plenty of Jamaican selections. Good wine selection, and fabulous coffee. The restaurants are good but the buffet is also good, definitely not a lesser choice. The staff: Reception staff and bellmen were pretty rude. Housekeeping staff seems miserable and none of them were friendly. Beach staff and food servers were much happier. Food servers seem confused by solo travelers -- only a couple of them treated me well, most seemed to want to hustle me out as soon as possible and didn't talk with me or serve me the same way they did couples and groups nearby.

Close to beautiful beachPosted May 18, 2014
Jamaica is beautiful. The hotel did not meet my expectations. 5 restaurants, 4 need reservations and they are difficult to get. If your not in line by 7:45am forget it. The steak house is either closed for a wedding or full. I had to complain on my 6th day to get a reserv. there. Hotel is small compared to other riu. The majority of the staff is pleasant, helpful and friendly. I would go back to Jamaica but not to riu tropical palace.
