Great vacation spot!

Posted Nov 19, 2014
Cons: The restaurants (non-buffet) need improvement. Having to wait in line at 8:00 in the morning to make reservations is ridiculous.
When we arrived for check in, our room wasn't ready so they upgraded us to a better room at no additional cost. The staff was amazing. Friendly, courteous, and very helpful. The main buffet, Negril, was outstanding. A huge variety of food choices at breakfast, lunch, or dinner, all very tasty! The 4 restaurants , non-buffet, need improvement. Having to wait in line at 8:00am to make reservations was ridiculous. The food in these restaurants was not that good and the service was very slow. Stick to the Negril buffet! The beach was great and the pool area was also very nice.

Beautiful beach

Posted Nov 9, 2014
Pros: It has beautiful white sandy calm-water beach. There are no rocks in the water and the water is so clear.
Cons: Slots machines game room is inadequate, not enough machines and many broken.
Location: The hotel is about 75 to 90 minutes away from the airport. It is close to Ricks Cafe.
My boyfriend and I stayed for a week for my birthday. We had visited Jamaica many times and this was 5th time we stayed in RIU resorts in Jamaica. Among the resorts, Tropical Bay has the most beautiful white sand calm-water beach. Love it! The food at buffet and at the specialty restaurants were good. The daily activities and nightly shows were entertaining. The staff were friendly and they provided good services.

Great Beach... not so great rooms

Posted Nov 7, 2014
Pros: Beach and staff
Cons: Beds, water condition
Location: Rick's cafe
Our toilet didn't work for 9 hours and they finally moved us after 3 requests. The fridge in the first room did not work and when we packed up to go to the second room there was a cockroach on my bag. The second room was fine. Beds were not comfortable. The staff friendliness and beach made up for it.

Nice beachside resort

Posted Oct 2, 2014
Pros: Well maintained hotel. All staff were pleasant and helpful.
Cons: Add beach cabanas and after evening show activity/entertainment such as a night club with DJ music
A nice resort located on a clean soft sandy beach. Overall staff are pleasant, helpful and accommodating. Wish there was some sort of shade for the beach such as thatched cabanas. There is also no other evening entertainment other than the nightly show which ends at approximately 10.30 PM. Any thought by Riu Palace to establishing a night club with DJ music until say 2.00 AM?

Overall a fabulous value for the money

Posted Sep 29, 2014
Pros: Just about everything
Cons: Beds....need softer (not soft) beds
Location: Ricks Cafe is near, and a good place to spend a few hours
The good: the beautiful beach, clear as glass water, friendly staff that never said no, great food, especially the buffet. The bad: no king size pillows, and the bed was sooooo hard it made us ache every morning. We checked out early Saturday morning, and just as we were leaving, the water service in the whole resort went down. Feel bad for my friends who weren't leaving til Sunday. No toilet? Yuck. I have to assume the resort got it back up and running quickly, since it appears they truly care about the condition of the resort and the happiness of the guests.

Best part is the beach....Bloody Bay.

Posted Sep 26, 2014
Pros: The hotel was situated @ Bloody Bay beach which was warm ,calm and clean. Security was very good. All request was handled in timely manner.
Cons: Some waitresses need retraining...they only asked the men in the group what they wanted to drink... The recreation team needs new routine.Boring.
.Bloody Bay beach was like a pool...warm and calm.. no peddlers bothered us. Security did their job well. Recreation at night was boring. They need to get a new routine. Buffet was terrific....better than Krystals specialty restaurant. Dont bother to book for that restaurant The food was terrible. French bread was hard as a rock. The drinks flowed 24/7 @ Cubano. The waitresses need retraining. They only asked my husband what he is drinking...totally ignored me.Is that a JAMAICAN THING to ignore the female in the group. Its true abt the bed being uncomfortable and the pillows were very small . We asked for 3 more pillows.Otherwise made the best of my week @RIU PALACE TROPICAL BAY...

Great place with SUPER friendly people!

Posted Sep 18, 2014
Pros: Staff, cleanliness, food
Cons: Pool area, and pool. Also the A/C
Location: Ricks Cafe
This resort was great. Overall, I can easily say that the staff are the most friendly people I have ever come across. Most of them remember who you are. They will go out of there way to say hi and see how you are doing. At the restaurants, Justin and Alvie (not sure if I have that spelled right) aka "fresh prince" were great! When we checked in it was my wife and I, and her friend. The friend had her own reservation and after checking in, I think it was Michael at the front desk, he noticed we were together and asked if we would like to have rooms closer together. We hadn't asked for this and we weren't even talking about it, he just noticed we were together and asked. The resort was in very good condition. You can tell they did renovations to the rooms recently. The beach and landscaping are always clean. The only reason I give the facilities a 4 is because they could probably do some updates to the pool and pool area. As for the room comfort everything was great except the A/C. I know its hot and humid there but the A/C would run all day and we would come back and it would be cool but not cold. It almost felt like the dehumidifier in the A/C wasn't working and so it would just push out cool humid air. This might be something that all places down there deal with, but I have been to other places in the Caribbean and it wasn't as bad. I also would like to add that I like a cool room at night to sleep, probably more so then the normal person.

Paradise!

Posted Sep 8, 2014
Pros: The beach!
Cons: Nothing.
Location: We did the cruise to Rick's cafe one day - a lot of fun. By far the best excursion was the private snorkeling trip to half moon island.
This is by far the best RIU property that we have visited. The facilities were fabulous. The beach was extraordinary. The staff went above and beyond.

Good resort to base trip to Negril

Posted Sep 5, 2014
Pros: location, beach, staff
Cons: better food
Location: Rick's Cafe is great for swimming in the Cliffs and cliff diving.
I like all-inclusives fore the convenience. However, I like to leave the resort at least every other day to get out and see what's out there. This is a good base for doing this as the resort has a beautiful beach and is close to enough to Negril town and the cliffs. The food was not particularly good at the buffets . . . and the way they do reservations (reserve in the morning for the dinner the following day) keeps you from eating at an a la cart restaurant for the first two days of your stay. While in Negril, be sure to go to Rick's Cafe for the cliff diving . . . i did it. :-)
