Another great stay!

Posted Dec 16, 2014
Pros: Clean, friendly, exceptional customer service, amazing views, plenty to do for all ages and interests
Cons: If you are looking for nightlife you might want to go elsewhere as the resort gets pretty quiet after the evening entertainment is done around 11.
A group of 8 of us just returned from our second stay at the RIU Palace Tropical Bay. As expected, everything was great again the second time around. Rooms were all clean, food was good, and the service from the resort staff was exceptional. They have a lot to offer with their great beach and pools, daily organized activities and pool parties, excursions off the resort, and evening entertainment.

First time in Jamaica

Posted Dec 16, 2014
Pros: There were 5 restaurants there and the food was excellent. Food was even available at the beach so you don't need to leave the beach during lunch.
Cons: Housekeeping could be improved. We needed towels twice during our 5 day stay. The phone lines needs fixing so guests could call the front desk
Location: The location was only a short distance from the starting line of the Reggae Marathon and not far from Seven Mile Beach.
We traveled to Jamaica for the first time to participate in the Reggae Marathon. RIU Palace Tropical Bay did not disappoint. The staff was friendly, very professional and eager to please. There was nightly entertainment and the beach was awesome with clear blue water. There were excursions available for those who seek adventure. The phone in our room wasn't working but we were allowed to make calls at the front desk at no charge as a courtesy.

Highly Disappointed and Unimpressed

Posted Dec 10, 2014
Pros: Staff are all super friendly. The beach is right there. The entertainment chef was very funny.
Cons: The food is not the real Jamaican experience!! I should not be getting better Jamaican food in NY or on the beach from a man cooking in a barrel.
Location: You have to take taxis to get anywhere from here. Rent a car if you can. Book all tour in advance or be prepared to pay more $
I expected a great room with an awesome view based on what I read from the description. The room was on the back side of the property on the 3rd floor with no elevator. Our room was supposed to be oceanview. Most the of the view blocked with trees. The tub was super small and i felt claustrophobic in it. For a junior suite I was not impressed. The food is not authentic Jamaican food and has no flavor. The specialty restaurants have to be booked the day before and there are only two seating times during the evening. The selections are very limited and the food was bland to say the very least. Room service food is a joke. The selection is almost non existent and when we did order the food arrived cold. I wrote a note asking for hot food for the next morning and it still came cold. At the steakhouse the steak was overcooked and the lobster was tough even after they replaced it. I couldn't cut the lobster with a knife. Most of the slot machines were broken and the only ATM in the hotel was down. We had to walk down the road for an ATM. They were painting parts of the resort the whole time we were there. Some of the water activities are included but you have to pay for lessons for para sailing before you do that. The best part of the resort is the super friendly staff that keep the drinks coming (If you like that kind of thing) Book your airport transfer and activities online before you go or you will be ripped off! This is not high class or a place to feel pampered.

Good beach bad rooms, Mosquitos everywhere

Posted Dec 4, 2014
Pros: beach and wi- fi
Cons: rooms conditions and service They should spray stuff to kill mosquitos
First room we got has a strong smell of mold. We insisted on room change, got a room with broken lamp, not working phone and bed sheets with wholes. Lamp was fixed, bed sheets were changed once to the end of our stay - we were there for 7 nights. Phone were not fixed even we complained about twice. To get a bell boy for your bags or stuff to move you will wait for 40 - 60 min. Strange system for restaurant reservation, we were unable to get into Steak House restaurant for a whole week. good food but they claimed they do different themes several times a week , we saw it once a week. Not A RIU Palalce level service and condition.

Great vacation spot!

Posted Nov 19, 2014
Cons: The restaurants (non-buffet) need improvement. Having to wait in line at 8:00 in the morning to make reservations is ridiculous.
When we arrived for check in, our room wasn't ready so they upgraded us to a better room at no additional cost. The staff was amazing. Friendly, courteous, and very helpful. The main buffet, Negril, was outstanding. A huge variety of food choices at breakfast, lunch, or dinner, all very tasty! The 4 restaurants , non-buffet, need improvement. Having to wait in line at 8:00am to make reservations was ridiculous. The food in these restaurants was not that good and the service was very slow. Stick to the Negril buffet! The beach was great and the pool area was also very nice.
