Great for children or people who can't swim!Posted Feb 28, 2015
Pros: The hotel was great. Liked most was the surprise birthday cake we received in our room after dinner. That was very thoughtful.
Cons: The air conditioning is a bit weak for North American standards. Even at 18C it was still very hot and humid for us.
Location: It is a great location for a beach vacation. Nothing major nearby.
Just got back from one of the nicest beaches I've been to. The water is crystal clear, warm, shallow & has beautiful white sand. It is smooth - no rocks. It is also very shallow and stays that way about 100 feet from shore, perfect for young children or people who can't swim. A little bit of snorkeling - saw small schools of fish, starfish and a ray. Not a lot,you had to really look because there isn't any coral. Walked around the bay and this is nicest stretch of beach in this area compared to other hotels. There is no shortage of lounge chairs and lots of sun. Most amount of sun is early morning until noon. After noon, the sun becomes less intense and it gets cloudy. So best time to be at the beach is morning. The food wasn't bad, there was lobster, fresh shrimp, lots of exotic tropical fruit and great steak. Coconut cart came around every other day where they chopped a fresh coconut just for you to drink out of the big green shell. The restaurants are not bad either, a bit of variety from the buffet. Only thing is you have to get up a tiny bit early before 8am to wait in line to get what you want for a spot 2 days out. Taxi cost from hotel isn't bad when compared to other taxi services, but extremely expensive overall. For 5 adults it cost 50US for a 15 min return trip to a little tourist mall/trap called Times Square. Cons: Lots of mosquitoes, 2 double beds pushed together as king - slides apart, weak A/C

Outstanding food is the best partPosted Feb 19, 2015
Pros: The food. Delicate, light, lots of variety, including local dishes. Desserts - a 10!
Cons: Service in the rooms. Provide earplugs for blocking sound from noisy neighbors!!
The food was the highlight of our stay here - really outstanding. Unfortunately the walls of the rooms are paper thin, so we didn't sleep well. The quiet Bloody Bay was often more windy than the seven mile beach area, which meant we couldn't take the kayaks out. One day we had to use hand towels after our shower since our towels had been removed, and the refrigerator wasn't attended to. But these are all first world problems, right - Negril is still our favorite place to hang out and swim, and we love the Jamaican people and the laissez-faire vibe. Next time we'll stay on the seven mile beach at a more rustic place; our expectations will be lower ;)

Third time not the charmPosted Feb 16, 2015
Pros: Great beach and location on Bloody Bay. Most rooms have good views and are very comfortable. Front desk staff is great.
Cons: Need to do a little more training with some of the food and bar staff. Improve and expand room service menu and include wine.
Location: On Bloody Bay so walk to Riu Negril and check it out. Fun place to visit.
This was our third time in past three years to visit Riu Tropical and it was a bit disappointing. We had great weather and the front desk staff (especially, Andrew) did a fantastic job for us. However, the food and bar staff were not anywhere near as pleasant as in the past. We found several to almost ignore us or forget to bring us our request or had to be reminded. In the past the food and bar staff were very accommodating. We tried room service one night and were disappointed with the quality and quantity of the food. The selection was poor also and we could not even get them to bring us a glass of wine with the skimpy amount of food. Also our room phone did not work at all and apparently nothing could be done to fix it while we were there. We will probably go back next year because we love the beach and setting but we will have to lower our expectations a bit. Did go to Black River and YS Falls tour...long bumpy ride...can't recommend.

Second stay...sadly we will not returnPosted Feb 6, 2015
So much to cover... PROS: excellent customer service, beautiful beach, great food (though much more local options available during ATI), engaging entertainers, well maintaines grounds (excluding a few areas that need painting. Painting was in progress but was not a bother) CON: smoking. This is a non smoking property yet this rule was NEVER enforced. There were several instances where my SO and i were forced to leave the beach, the pool, and even the lobby because of this and sadly for this reason we will not return. Management should seriously take this into consideration as there were other couples who were complaining as well.

Nice Hotel, the staff is great!Posted Feb 6, 2015
Pros: The people that work there are top notch and work hard to make sure you have a great time.
Location: Location is great, there is Ricks cafe nearby and snokeling and they have sunset cruises that stop at many of the local attractions on the way.
We stayed 7 nights and had a great time. From the minute you get there until the time you leave the staff make sure that you are having a great time and if there is something that you need or want they try hard to get it for you. They are friendly and fun.

Hotel was nice and right on the beach.Posted Feb 5, 2015
Pros: The friendliness of the staff and their professionalism.
Location: Ricks Cafe is always great for perfect sunsets. The shopping market is very near the hotel.
My expereince was great as usual. I enjoy coming to this resort because you have a variety of things to do. Rather it be relaxing, partying, socializing or just sleeping this Resort accomodates all of that. Very great expereince everytime I come to The Riu Palace.

Cons: It is dark in the room in the evening. Cannot read.
We like everything, vacation was wonderful. The only... not enough light in the room, all light fixtures are dimmed.
