The hotel is well situated on a scenic river with marina, but our fifth floor room was noisy. Both the air-conditioning unit and the refrigerator rumbled and rattled every time they cycled on.

Location: New Bern is a nice small town
I have stayed at several hotels outside of downtown New Bern and had good experiences -- Holiday Inn Express, Hampton Inn. This time, I thought I would stay downtown on the water, and thought the Doubletree brand would be a step up from the other places I had stayed. I checked in and was informed I would be staying in the "Inn" which is a separate buildng that looks older. My room was on the third floor. The elevator was filthy, as was the carpet in the hall. The elevator had what looked like potting soil spilled on the floor, and appeared to have something smeared on the door and walls. The hall carpet did not appear to have been vacuumed in weeks. Someone even left the bucket off of one of those things with a handle that you sweep things into just sitting in the hall. The room was ok -- appeared clean (though I discovered a long hair -- not mine -- on the side of the shower the next morning), but was very worn. I stopped by the desk after check in to advise about the dirty elevator and hall, and the person at the front desk wrote my comment down on what appeared to be a form with about 10 other entries. She thanked me, but didn't appear particularly concerned or eager to fix. The next morning, the condition was exactly as it had been the day before.

This is our second stay at this hotel with a 1 BR suite. Both times were on very busy weekends. The first time, one year ago, the check-in desk was total chaos. Several people waiting in line to check-in at 3pm but rooms were not ready until after 6p. Once checked in about 6:30p, waited on sheets for the pull-put couch which we specified at check-in that we needed. Manager gave us a $10 credit at the poolside bar for our wait, then the $10 was 'accidentally' charged to our room, so we had to address the front desk. Once we all settled in, the accommodations were good. ...... Last weekend same service issues. We asked to check in early around 12:45p, but it was okay not ready yet. We were told to check back close to 3p, that is the check-in time. We actually got back to check-in around 6pm and our room wasn't ready but the desk would double-check. Upon checking, the room was ready accept they knew that it still needed towels. We went to our room, towels weren't there. I called for towels and sheets for the pull-out bed. Went out to dinner, back around 9:45p, towels were in place but no sheets. So I called for the sheets; they arrived within a reasonable time. Then 1 minute later, a different person came to our door with towels!! Next time we are trying a different hotel in New Bern.

Ants on the desk and in the bed. Dirty windows. Bed super comfortable though! Awkward how the bathroom is set up.

Pros: water view
Cons: a few things as noted
Location: historic info.
Bed was slopped in middle, old milk was in the fridge. We kept see pictures and info about cookies, on the day we were leaving I asked about it and they mentioned...oh you get free cookies. Our children would have loved that the night we got there :( too bad the employees were not trained to tell us about the Hilton/doubletree rewards were :(

Pros: When the check-in person learned that we were on anniversary he comped our breakfast.
Cons: Construction crew could hold off on the floor pounding above our room until whenever...
Location: Great town and plenty to do and eat.
Comfortable Motel; however, we could have done without the construction noise at 7:30 AM. Staff when we checked in were great; seemed we were bothering the staff upon checkout.

Not only is it located on the water, it has a fabulous deck. We stayed over a Sunday night and there was a jazz concert on the deck. It was great!! Highly recommend this Doubletree Hotel.

Pros: Location. We could walk to everything we wanted to do.
Cons: Maintenance on the second building.
Location: Restaurants and shops were very good. Ocean was 45 minutes away. Sailing on a sailboat in Fairfield Harour at sunset was divine.
Location on the Neuse River was perfect. There were 2 buildings and we were in the 2nd building. It was in need of much needed maintenance. We were without air-conditioning for 3 days before they moved us to another room. Not every room had a fridge, but their was a cabinet built for one. We were their for a week and needed a fridge. We found a maintenance man who located one for us and brought it to our room. Needless to say, we brought it with us when we moved to another room. Elevator needed work. I finally started taking the stairs because I was afraid to use the elevator and we were on the 3rd floor. I guess that was my exercise, since the exercise room was being renovated. I should be glad that at age 70 and my husband at age 80 were still able to do it. All and all, New Bern is a great place to visit

Sink and toilet not working. Sliding door to balcony not working. Vending machine not working. Room was otherwise nice and clean. Hotel staff very rude.
