“Pleasantly surprised”

We were not expecting too much seeing as this was a downtown hotel. We were pleasantly surprised with the overall stay. The staff was welcoming, our room was large with a view and there was a band playing outside which we enjoyed. Our only issue was breakfast was cold.

“Great place”

We got into the hotel at midnight and the staff was quick to help us and very friendly. The room was clean and confortable and even though the hotel was full it was quiet. Its 2 blocks from the French Quarter in a decent area and the street car stops 1/2 a block away. All in all a nice place to stay

Must see
Definitely take a tour to the plantations and take an air boat to see the alligators!

“Would stay there again”

We were very happy with our hotel. The rooms were small and there was very little room to hang clothes. But overall we were pleasantly surprised. Location was great....just two blocks from Bourbon Street / French Quarter.

Area recommendations
We were only there for two days and hit the French Quarter area the most. Down by the river was the most fun for us. We also did a tour around the city and the Katrina area. So glas we did it, so we could see more of the city.

“Impressive and would go back!”

The entire staff from Valet to Desk were wonderful, very friendly. Breakfast every morning was very good. Hotel is in great location, Bourbon St. is just around the corner!

Area recommendations
Downtown area, close to everything!
Getting around
We got the DAY PASS for Trolley and this was so helpful, as we had no clue how to get to places of interest. Would recommend this highly to anyone unfamiliar with the downtown area.

“Great location - excellent value”

While the Hampton Inn on Carondelet wasn't my favorite New Orleans hotel it provides a great value at a very convenient location. It's in need of some freshening and the lobby hasn't got the wow factor that the more expensive hotels in this fabulous city do but the value considering the full breakfast included is definitely worth some of the sacrifices. One cautionary note: if you like a bright room, make sure you aren't butted up against a neighboring brick wall. My room was only about 5' from a brick wall and even at high noon on a sunny day you couldn't tell if it was day or night.

Area recommendations
For lodging business district is ideal; still very close to the French Quarter but less noisy. Garden District and St. Charles streetcar well worth a look and stroll. French Quarter dining, shopping and nightlife have to be part of any trip to New Orleans.
Dining
NOLA favorite meal of all time in New Orleans after many trips. Food was excellent and service made it a rich, memorable evening. Get advance reservations.
Events and shows
Have made multiple trips to New Orleans for Jazzfest and never considered some of the other attractions. Cannot recommend the WWII Museum highly enough, walking distance and so worthwhile. See the 45 minute film first; fabulously done and a great guide to the war and the exhibit galleries. Expect tears, extremely moving.

“Nice Hotel, OK parking”

When we stayed at the Hampton New Orleans it was only a week after Mardi Gras and it was still quite busy. Parking was kind of a pain because the trolley ran right in front of the hotel and we got stuck behind it a few times. We finally found the parking garage connected to the hotel, and the elevator from it went right into the building connected to the hotel. There was a small mall connected to the hotel which had a nice food court which we loved because we had been driving for quite a while and we were all hungry. Overall the stay was very nice and the hotel was walking distance from everything so we never had to get back into the car until we left the next day.

Area recommendations
If you're going to stay in New Orleans I would stay in the warehouse district because it's only a few blocks from the French Quarter, but a lot cheaper than actually staying in the French Quarter. It's really safe and I never felt nervous walking around at night. It also isn't as noisy as being around Bourbon Street.
When to go
Don't go around Mardi Gras, it is really really crowded and it's mostly drunk college students making a mess of the area. I would go later in the Spring after all the celebrations are done with, but before it gets really hot and muggy.
